Cut the valance of, either repair the boot corners or fit a half boot floor then fit a new valance and closing panels. You're just making it unnecesarily difficult try to seperate bits and slip it in between them.

did a little bit of digging when i got in from work, theses are the last two bits of rust i can see on the drivers side.....

the window doesn't seam to challenging as it only curves on one axis, but the fact you cant get to the back of it that easy may prove tricky.
But the roof/door/screen, i have no idea where to start! any pointer will be much appreciated, i am thinking of finding a scrapper to chop it out off?

Not fun repairs. This is what I did in your situation:

Cheers! very helpful! the 2 repairs you put in did you just make from sheet steel? my door exclusion bit is on both faces, i cant see me being able to make a patch that look acceptable. do you know if any one makes repair panels for theses sections? i have checked with the usual suspects but no joy.

I used sections from scrap cars. Have a look at the page before the one I linked to, more of the same...

famous last words?

choped off the A panel and sill, to find the fitch to be quite rusty...

you cant really see it what i am on about that well, but there is a small hole in the fitch panel near the bottom. Also there is quite bad surface rust all the way up to the gusset at the top. gusset seems solid except a small hole the the seam at the edge where it wasn't covered in seam sealant. Wing is good, other than a bit on the outside around the headlight. The inner wing had some surface rust.

I am in two, well 3 minds of what to do...

A) patch small hole hope the surrounding metal is solid enough to weld to.

B) do my best to fit a fitch repair panel like i did on the other side, i can see it being a pain with the wing still on. but should be able to mainly work from inside the car

C) chop the lot off new fitch and plastic front, as i still haven't fitted a new drivers wing.

what would you do?

Cheers

I repaired the inner wing on my old clubman with the wing and a panel still on....

Personally, I would get an inner wing repair panel and fit that while you have chance. That rust will continue and it will end up needing doing anyway. I would certainly change the wing regardless. Steel or plastic has to be a personal choice, based on what you like and want the car to be.

Cheers Andy solid advice as always.
I have gone on and off the idea of a plastic front ever since i started.

Don't want one because plastic is gay,
cant imagine it doing to well in a crash,
cant weld it up,
its going to get driven in winter so the engine bay being the same and the wheel arches probably is not for the best,
but mainly you can always tell and i want it looking stock. well your average chump probably couldn't but i can and it my car :)

On the other hand,
loads of room for an intercooler ect,
i have always fancied a clubman front,
no rust being a pretty big one,
and engine work would be maid easier with good access,
dead light.

have i missed anyhting?

i want the car to be a solid fun fast everyday car.

Looking good. Just a thought whilst you have the outer sill off have a look at the nuts used to hold on the subframe on the heelboard. Ensure ok as if it comes off (shears it's weld) its a pain the arse.

I had a good look at the nuts on both sides and they seem pretty good and rust free.

I was raining most of today but got a bit of cutting done this afto, and built up my subframe witch is fresh back from power coating

off again tomorrow so if the weather is good all day should get this finished and maybe the sill on if i am lucky.

Well spotted i was only testing you lot *wink* its a new one and i just chucked them in so they didn't vanish.

But f an update...

Big question is what is the best/easiest line of attack on the roof corner? cant decide, brace up the window frame and door frames and roof rail inside and chop it out in one go. or to try separate the bit i have got and do it in 3 steps?

Cheers

Hello again, I have spent the last year or so living in Leeds, whilst the mini had resided at my parents house. In which time I have carried on collecting parts but not really doing any work on it.

Now I am back working in Manchester, I am renting a garage just up the road and can now crack on and finish the project.

Few pictures from a year or so ago…

A few bikes along the way

My favourite new tool!

My new man cave

Step one was make the place a little less hazardous!

Then get moved in

A slightly more up to date pic of my engine

Hopefully from now on I will be updating a bit more regularly *happy* and sorry for the poor img quality, what is your favourite image hosting site?

Spent most of today plugging up holes in the floor...

do i need to reinforce this part now the rear bins have gone? I am going to make it look a little better at least but wondering how substantial it needs to be?

Any help will be much appreciated
cheers
James

Good work.

looking at the photo below your calliper is on the wrong side, bleed nipple should be at the top otherwise you'll never bleed them!

And yes, it's a good idea to put a plate over the gap left with the pockets removed.
