I seriously under estimated the rust beneath one of the pockets. removed the pocket without any issues, but as i was poking around with the screwdriver the axle stand came through the floor !!!

i was hoping i wouldn't have to put it into the bodyshop, but it looks like might have too. i cut the rust out and see whether its possible to do it at home.

Doh!

Get a floor repair section and but weld it in/ Looks much worse than it is.

P.S. never support your car on stands under the floors. always use the subframes...

Mine is rotten there too, identical both sides.
I've left it until last as I intend to repair it while the shell is rolled onto its respective sides for the outer sill replacement - it will be a lot esier for me that way as the bins are staying in.
If you are thinking of buying a rear floor repair section, look at it first - I have one that came in a job lot of parts and it is shaped to only go around the bin, not under it, so wouldn't cover all of your hole.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Cheers Rod, ill have a hunt around today for some new panels, i had a look and the heal board and it looks OK, some surface rust. so i think its just going to need a floor and outer sill section. im still tempted to put it into a body shop. ill patch up all the other little holes and see how motivated i am.

Hey guys,

progress has been a little slow as we had to move house just before christmas, but on a plus side i now have a garage wowow.
i spent the last few weeks getting the garage in order.
both subframes are off now the front needs cleaning up, lightening and powder coating. the rear is fecked so in the process of sourcing another one.
the plans to get the front end sorted, so i spent the day taking the engine bay back to bare metal and positioning the bulkhead box.
thanks to Jason for manufacturing some top quality boxes.
Thankfully there wasnt any suprises in the engine bay, cleaned up nicely

I havent welded the box in yet, i was unsure about the right side of the bulkhead i notice most people cut it to a angle but wasnt sure why, but thanks to a previous thread i understand now. fingers crossed for another snow day tomorrow so i can get it finished.

Nice one!

One thing to remember when you're cutting the angle in the cross member, you might want to fit some kind of engine steady on the waterpump side of the engine in the future.

You could drill some holes and weld some captive nuts in the cross member before to cap the end off. *wink*

Cheers matt totally forgot about the engine steady, was thinking of making some brackets and welding them to the bulkhead, similar to Nic's.
Cheers Rob the panel below the bulkhead had distorted a bit, but ive order some cleco pins which should straighten it all out.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Looking good.

Having just re-read the thread, I love the axel stand poking thorough the floor. I can just imagine the thoughts of "oh sh*t, what the f*ck is that" as it happened.

Bloody good work mate!

Thats a much neater job than mine. Are those skin pins magnetic or something?

The type im using has 3 probes,
when compressed the outer two project forward. As you push them through the hole they taper together. when you release the pin the centre probe pushes the outer probes apart and pulls the panels together.
