cheers paul

its been a while since i have posted. doesnt look like much has been done, but plenty of hours have gone in. paint on the roof is now sorted. got to give the bodywork a hand polish then wax. will be using autoglym deep shine then some dodo supernatural (i treated myself).

waiting for my sunroof to come back from the trimmers, hes had it for a good 3 months, will have to call in again next week.

the pics arent the best, they will do though!

once paint is sorted i would ideally like to waxoil it, but its a bit cold! will make a start with rear suspension next.

looking forward to making a start getting it all togeher now!

Its been a long time since iv updated this thread. It doesn’t look like much has happened, but iv spent a good while on the car getting it to this!

Since I last posted I have finished flattening, polishing and waxing the paintwork. Have also fitted rear braided brake lines, minisport hi-lows, Spax shocks to the rear. Have overhauled the rear brakes. The rear suspension is now sorted, I hope to make a start on the front when time allows. I have already solid mounted the front subframe and fitted stainless towing eyes. Will be fitting hi-lows, adjustable spax, rebuilt metro four pots, decent discs and pads, braided hoses, negative camber, adj. tie bars etc.

will get pics of what iv done when its a bit warmer!

Have also fitted the boot lid properly, as well as the rear lights.

Last week I finally got my electric sunroof back from the trimmer. He has made a great job of it. Outer is black mohair, inner is sportspack type headlining. I will be cutting a felt sportspack lining to fir the rest of the roof. Also have a pair of rear c pillar covers on the way, trimmed I the same material

Also got the bottom dash rail trimmed in black leather to match the top one that I have, originally from a cooper sport 500.

If anyone in the South Wales area wants he details I am happy to pass them on, I recommend him highly. He takes his time but the end result is worth the wait. Reasonable pricing too. The pics don’t do the parts justice.

The car currently has era wheels on just to move it around. I wont be using these, am looking for something a little different!

thanks for the kind coments. it is pretty shiney, put nearly as much work into polishing the paint up as i did prepping for paint!

its moris tartan red. not sure which one as there were a few, asked for the 'redest' at the paint shop!

hope to get a move on with it when the weather changes a bit

Looks like RD9 to me but then again I could be wrong.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Nice fella, nice. Keep it up!
The first time you drive it up the road and the turbo whistles in, you'll be grinning for a week and you'll know where all that time and money went *smiley*
I've got a few pics of mine on here under 'New member pics', as soon as I can work out how to add more I'll update it lol!

got my new wheels yesterday from a felow tm member. they are genuine 3 piece superlite splitrims.

the plan will be to take them apart, paint the centres pearl black to match the roof, polish the outers and change the bolts for stainless dome top ones.

also have a set of john cooper garages centre caps to fit. should look good. not going to make a start until the weather gets better, not ideal for painting at the moment

a few updated pics. the rear wheel arch.

fitted with sportspack spacers, and the wheels have a bit of a wild offset.

also fitted the sunroof today.

have also waxoiled the car.

next is to respray the drivers side rear arch as i did something really stupid and rubbed through the paint when cutting back.

going to fit the headlining/windows soon

done a few more bits. got the drainage for the sunroof in place. also fitted the headlining. need to make some minor adjustments. when i had the sunroof trimmed i had the inner done in mpi type material. i cut the outer from a whole mpi headlining. the big bit missing from the middle gave me enough spare fabric to trim the rear c pillar covers.

next will be windows and interior. also going to look at refurbing the wheels over the next few months.

thanks for the comments. yea im glad i went with the colour scheme. i had to put a black roof on really so that the sunroof didnt stick out by a mile.

looking forward to getting the wheels polished up and centres in black.

i may also be changing direction with this car...

i may scrap the proposed engine, and build a proper low compression high outout motor. im going to price it up and see. part of me says that iv spent enough already, and i should get it going with the engine i have. the other part says 'do it once, do it properly'. so we will see.

not going to make a rushed decision on it.

i measured from a factory fitted car. then to cut mine we planned it out on a spare roof we have, and drew where to cut in perminant markers. then put the measurements to the roof of the car. then cut!

the open classic roofs are prone to fabric shrinking. i have a couple and all could do with recovering really.

shame you arent closer, could have come and measured it yourself. one thing to watch is the front of these roofs are curved, the rear is flat. so its not square!
