It depends if the middle one is also a bi-metallic strip, or just spring steel!

dave, could you advise why it would make a difference if the middle one was a bi-metallic strip?

A bi-metallic strip is just that... Two metals together. They are generally formed as one piece - which looks like a single strip of metal Thinking about the one in the carb, I understand what you mean, but why would you need three strips? Surely you'd only need the top (or bottom) one and the middle one.

to make was about 10min job, used a small file to slit the strip then carefully pulled the strip up and down a couple of times and you get a nice clean break where you made the slit, repeat for the other side, then fettle a little with the file.

Oh, you just removed the upper and lower "plate" I now see why you need to figure if the middle one is bi-metallic. If it isn't, I guess this mod is VERY simple in comparison to making an entire new one.

did the test, as dave suspected the middle strip is bi-metalic, infact there wasn't much difference between the modified one and the unmolested one,

Drawing looks more than good enough to make the parts from, any fab shop worth their salt ought to be able to knock those out from the dwg!
