well its been a while since the last update.

I had hoped to get the car done for the 2010 season but, as you will all appreciate recently, finances have been a significant limitation on prgress so I spent a bit of time on the estate earlier in the year to at least get one of the cars out and about.

Anyway, I've not done much to the turbo since the last post although I've now got the engine sitting in the car and I dropped it back down on the ground to see how it is going to look - I'll have to wait until all the wight is back in the car before i decide if it is low enough.

Engine wise, its a standard bottom end with the exception of a centre main strap and under crown cooling jets. The cam is an MED ph3 with a belt drive kit (not sure on the belt drive!). The head is ex Wolfie's car and with my calculations, the CR is around 7.9:1 - perhaps a little low but I'll wait and see. Its all going to be controlled by megajolt when i get some more cash together.

Gearbox is SC with SC drops and a cross pin diff and 2.9:1 FD.

Cooling wise, I'm going to try and fit the Audi TT intercooler behind the grille - I'm trying to keep the outside of the car stock (albeit wide wheels!) and don't want to cut the bonnet for vents. The idea being that it could have been a production special hence I'm using a lot of standard rover parts in the interior with the exception of the seats.

Interior; as you can see i've got a couple of MX5 seats fitted; possibly a bit low at the back but I'll wait and see. The dash is a charcoal 3 clock, keeping in line with a factory type feel. I've also gone for the grey trim in place of the usual black. I'm going to fit a stereo (I know is extra weight!) but I've no illusions this is going to be the quickest car on the planet and am looking for something i can simply go out and enjoy of a weekend.

So, now all I need to do is keep on at it over the winter with the hope it will all be done by next summer.

land rover monsoon grey and the roof is some chrysler colour -cant recall what its called. I was really looking for something that looked black but shon red in the sunlight so this isn't quite what i was looking for. I may still change it but I'll wait until its finished before start changing things around now.

well its been a while so time for a wee update.

Over the past few months i've been gathering up a few of the bits I need to get on with the car and actually found a bit of time and motivation to get on with it.

This weekend I finally got the copper fuel and brake lines fixed and started on the electrics. I'm trying to make the install look like factory so have decided to strip out the redundant cables from the original loom and integrate the wiring for the Megajolt, alarm etc. I've got to say I was starting to have my regrets about this yesterday!

Got the megajolt and supplementary fuse box mounted where the glove box will be in the dash. This can then be covered over later.

Also went to mount the drive shafts up whcih I painted last year but they have started to rust up again so stripped the paint back off and got them back up to scratch again. I don't know if it is my painting/ prep or the moisture in the shed but everything was soaking with condensation on Saturday so we left the covers off the cars to see if it would dry up a bit. I'm considering dehumidifiers but I think we would need one capable of drying the titanic at the moment!

The to do list is pretty long still but I managed to wipe a few jobs off the list at the weekend.

The thought for this week is how I'm going to mount the intercooler - I've gone for the Audi TT one so I can have it sitting down behind the grille as I don't want to have to drill holes or vents into the bonnet.

Now I'm going to put my kneck on the line and say it will be ready for Avon.................

mmmmmmm.....don't think I checked that. The turbo has been trial fitted but I don't think the actuator is fitted to it yet. The box is longer/wider than the 'avonbar' one so hopefully yes.

guess what I'll be doing next time I'm down at the shed

Looks very nice, my fuel pipes are run in the same area can't say I've ever had any issues with clearance.

cheers guys. I just need to keep focused. I'm trying to keep it simple looking and something the factory would have built (or something like it anyway!)

my frustration at the moment is some of the parts that have previously been painted are starting to rust again- i don;t konw if it is my prep or the fact they were probably painted 2-3 years ago as its taken that long to get here - make that 11 years - car came off the road in 99!

got a few hours at the workshop on Saturday. As you will see from my other post, I was considering running the loom internally so I spent a bit of time planning the best line of attack.

I've pulled the loom back through into the car and am looking at the best way of running it down through the inner wing area. My biggest concern is forming a weather and waterproof seal so I don't end up flooding the inside of the car if it is wet and also to limit the chance of corrosion forming. I've been looking at options oand one is a sleeved grommet but its not easy finding the correct size on the timternet; I may end up wandering round the scrappies looking for something suitable unless anyone else has any ideas?

As for fuses, I have already bought a ne 8 fuse auxillary box which I mounted up internally. I was going to run dedidcated circuits for megajolt, stereo, fuel pump, electric windows, alarm, auxillary sockets etc but if I move all the existing fuses interllay, 7 of the ways will be taken up already so I'm now looking at either a second box or changing this one to a larger capacity;

My other 'issue' is that I started wiring up the alarm, central locking and electric windows together with prewiring for the stereo last year and it all made perfect sense where it was all going - not so sure now though so might try and integrate all this into a second loom to keep it all nice and tidy.

While thinking about the main loom routing, I decided to sort out the EDIS module; I've routed the wiring back through the bulkhead using an old alarm grommet. This allows the EDIS plug to pull through the bulkhead so the entire loom can be removed in future if need be. I also want to remove it once all the fitting up has been done so I can wrap it in loom tape anyway.

Rob i'm moving my wiring out of the engine bay and the fusebox inside the car also.
i'm going to be taking out the fresh air vent in the inner wing and block it off with an alloy plate, drill a hole in it and use some cable glands and use some flexible conduit to keep the wires in:

yes, I've spied this conduit as well. I'm keeping the fresh air vents but was thinking the conduit could be installed in the same area

not much of an update really;

I picked up a fair few of the bits I need from the show last week;


I've also had a re-think on the wiring and as a result of a bit of info from APBellamy, I've got a new modular fuse and relay box from www.polevolt.co.uk - excellent stuff and quick delivery. I've also managed to get a right-angled bulkhead fitting and conduit so i can hopefully run the loom through the drivers inner wing.

The biggest issue is now going to be time to get the car running for Avon; Work is getting busy again and I've got my folks moving back up to Scotland and the in-laws moving both in April so busy times ahead.

I've got all day at the shed tomorrow for a start though so will see what I can get done for starters

the gap in the fuel lines is basically due to the fact I didn't fully install them before I fitted the frames and couldn't get them sitting right so ended up making new front sections and creating a join - not how i wanted it but the best of a bad thing as I wanted to run the lines above the frames as per factory install
