ok, I'll do that now, thanks :)

here are the pistons I bought.

metro 4 pots, off a metro we had in at work which we scrapped, so i had a few bits off it first :)

here is the turbo i bought. I was told it was a T2 off a R5, but it has been confirmed not to be an R5 unit, so god knows what it is lol

here is how the engine looks at the moment, although it will be out soon.

and lastly here is the Spi tank loosly in place, and the relay wiring I did from scratch!

I've not strapped the tank in yet, because I need to run bigger fuel lines? 8mm internal? Would it be alright to have rubber hose from front to rear, and the same for the return? *oh well*

Thanks,

James.

The turbo could be from an R5, the early ones weren't water cooled.

Here is a little update from the weekend. Nothing done on saturday, as I was at Japfest, great show as always!

Got the carpets in, all the wiring routed behind the speaker board and now hidden. Also got the drivers seat back in, harness linked up.

needs a good hoover out inside

just a general shot of down the side :)

Also bought a bleed valve from Japfest, any advice for fitting please?

A little pic of a few megajolt bits from ebay. Just need a quick clean.

Thanks for looking

James.

If you're going megajolt, you'll need a toothed crank pulley and a bracket for the TPS. Tom Fenton is your man for them.

Ok, thanks. I was in MED for the two same items you mentioned. Two of my friends also need the bottom pulleys, but they require the extra supercharger drive. We were quoted £250 for all 3 pulleys, 1 normal, 2 s/c ones. Does this sound reasonable? The brackets did sound over priced slightly at £60 each, including a crank sensor??

Not updated for ages, been busy working and doing the mini when I've had time.

Took the engine out and stripped it down. Turned out it needed lots more work than I first anticipated.

Took the engine to MED for him to have a look, and ended up spending loads of money on new bits.

Here is a few pics.

Got the block re - honed

Got a reground and heat treated crank

MED spec "T3" turbo cam

Piper vernier pulleys

Few more bits and bobs

I then started to build the engine

And thats where I'm upto so far. Ive got to take the vernier off and the timing plate off again because I forgot to put an oil gallery plug in because there is 2 behind there and I only put 1 in >_<.

Hopefully shouldn't be too long before its built.

looking good

going baack to your fuel lines, rubber hose should be ok, but there are two types available, injection (high pressure reinforced) and carb (for up to about 20psi or so)

If your using an injection pump, id make sure you have the high pressure type

Oh right I wondered about the difference in pressure and wasn't sure which one to go for. I did a search the other day and found that people were using copper pipe from B & Q, so I got my brother to pick me some up on saturday and I've just picked it up today. Its 10mm OD, so roughly 8mm internal. I'll just buy a bit of rubber pipe for the joins etc.

just a quick update,
started on the fuel pipes today. Using 10mm OD, 8mm ID copper pipe with 3/8 (10 mm ID) rubber pipe to join.

Here is a few pics :

Just a quick question, what do people do with the tank breather, It's another pipe all the way to the front wing where there is a cannister filter thing. I've just removed all the pipes from the tank and under the car as I don't want to use it, but do I need to route a bit of pipe outside of the car for a breather? I cant really let it breathe in the car can I?

Well its been nearly a year since I updated the thread, so just a few pictures of where it is now!

It turned out that the shell was a lot worse than I expected rust wise, so I ended up parting with a large sum of cash to get the shell fully restored and a full repsray in the original colours.

Work being done :

New front end including wings, front panel, a panels, flitch panels, scuttle panel.

Bulkhead box

New half floors (both sides)

New inner and outer sills

New door skins (both sides)

New door steps

Rear 1/4 repairs

Rear valance lip repair.

The car went late last year in November, its taken 8 months after loads of promises / deadlines not met etc, but finally its gone for paint, so hopefully in the next couple of weeks it will be back home!

Also changed my plans engine wise, and sourced a few GT17's and various bits and bobs... I'll let the pics do the talking :)

Engine pics

Bought some different brakes from a friend

Hi, thought I'd update my thread as its been ages... Well the car was painted eventually, then sent back to be redone after a crap job was done, but that's a whole different story...

It's well on its way now to being completed, had it running n/a, decided to run it in first then fit the gt17 and bits to get it done, but then had a change of heart and bought a t3, just so I could bolt it together without too much hassle and at least run it turbo to get some enthusiasm back!!

Not sure if pics will work but hey!
