And from what I understand, it isnt that hard to get an MOT cert for a car on the mainland if you ask the right people.....even if the car doesnt appear at a test station !!!

This is much more difficult now days, but for a RWYB event I am sure a scanner and a photo shop MOT could be easy enough.

As TD mentions a race car can be made road legal very easily with some lights and road tyres. If you start going down this road you are going to get upset when other cars that you consider not road legal beat you.

I am sure that the TT could get into D class with minimum mods, but what is the point.

Enjoy it for what it is, and if you really want to win then you are going to have to bend the rules too, that is just motorsport.

I knew this was going to be fun!! I do enjoy Avon for what it is otherwise I wouldn't have done it for 10 years - hands up those that have done it this long........not that many I see.

So lets turn it on its head then and leave it down to the morals of people..I for one will be turning up with an mot'd, taxed insured car..on a trailer!

good point though the true victors are people like Matt/ Paul/Gav whom drive to these events, put in astonishing times and drive home - most of the time!

So lets see whom is honest then in class D this year, if its all for fun those whom know their car isn't legal and turboed will go and have fun in the race car catergories (and probably win!)- no?

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

I agree with you JohnK if you want it to be a pucker motorsport championship....but its purpose is more a gathering with people showing their cars and having a good social in the process. Light hearted fun.
I would like to run the meccy at MITP as they seemed to allow them last year. I know most minis on here would piss all over it. But be fun.

to be fair i was going to run in class D last year, now the ONLY thing that was missing on my car was the fact i hadnt welded in the handbrake lever as i ran out of time, that was it.
I ran like this at MITP although not very competatively! haha! if anything this hindered me as i couldnt warm the tyres up as well as if i had.

I think it depends on whether the bits missing for an MOT have any bearing on the result, i'd say 99% dont.

I know the Don had working lights, wipers etc.

end of the day i think most people on here are just impressed with the times these cars can run full stop!

i think the cars at the top of class D have a good chance in the race class as well! i seem to remember mid 12's is the winning sort of time?

its all good fun IMHO

*smiley*

Totally, but there are classes for a reason and a lot of us spend all year in preparation for this main event. If someone entered the upto 1275cc class with a stonking 1460cc engine and won then everyone would be thoroughly fucked off not just the people in that class. So JohnK is right in what he is saying.

I seriously doubt it!

yeah but going down the tax, insurance, mot route is a bit extreme.

MOT i can see since it is a road class but thats all. then again i can buy a mot'd car now and build it into what i like before then.

Its all very tricky but as long as the car is in the spirit of the class then i reckon that does the job.

obviously nos etc do take the piss a little as its a blatent rule breaker, not having a horn or something doesnt.

okay...to do it you would need a completely different event with scrutineering etc. Even then, no matter what, you would have people trying to beat the system & cheat.
I'm sure the organisers know if somethings blatantly not road going.

To be fair, i enjoy it for the day or weekend or whatever it happens to be.

However, I challenge myself more than anything and im my worst critic.

But lets be fair, gliding past someone on the drag strip to the finish line is a great feeling.

Id like the idea that this kind of thing is left down to the drivers conscience, but i do see what you mean John.

We're all friends here:)

Id like to agree with john, if its a road legal class then it should be road legal , ie if your car isnt taxd or insurd then it isnt road legal is it ?
If you want to compete then enter the class properly but yes like a lot of us its just a laugh so there should be a general run wot u brung that caters for everything and anything.

I do understand that i carnt be policed properly but hey thats life.

This is much more difficult now days,

Not really, I own 2 Green Minis one road legal one not, other than my own integrity there is nothing stopping my putting the plates from one car on the other and getting an MoT. As I say I won't do this or recommend it, simply pointing out how easy it is to get round MoTs, which is one of the reasons I don't consider them to be worth the paper they are written on.

On 6th Feb, 2008 TurboDave said:
So, if we're going to have it as 'motd, taxed, insured, etc - then lets extend it to having driven there instead of being trailered???

I know the Solo events run at club level require you to drive to the event. Which is fine for those who live relatively* close to the venue but it's a bit harsh on those who live further away, and can be a real PITA if you are a few hundred miles from home and something lets go.

* I appreciate that relatively is a subjective term

Turbo Dave

sorry i'm late to this thread!!!!!!!!

Rubs hands, were do i start.

i think the BMC's idea for classes was based on the asumption that there was no such thing as a road going drag mini. then set the classes so they have classes for race prep cars (you could include road race cars) and classes for people who just turn up on the day (road cars) so yes in a way you should drive your car on the road to be in a road going class.

BUT since there are no real rules and a lot of gray area there is not much that can be done.

none of the classes say no nos and as far as i know nos is legal to use on the road. should it be allowed then?

i saw several carbon/fibreglass shelled cars in A,B and C class. is this wrong?

does a K head or KAD head make it a non A series?

solution1?
since its a road legal class, thus every car in it is road legal, how about a early saturday night drive? out to the motorway, one or two junctions along and back again.

solution2?
we define and police our own rules and have our own leader board on this site. we could even have a semi seperation of class D, say class D "a" for proper road cars with a series heads etc, class D "b" for other heads and class D "c" for not so road legal or with nos.
