As I had technical troubles with the first version I decided to do an "analog" version and its works very well..

If you look around (digikey?) there are some 4mm slot sensors, there may be some smaller ones. I found that 10x4mm sensors covered the lift nicely. The problem is that this means that you need to do a conversion because the sensors do not equate exactly to the needle stations. Thats why I actually prefer the analog version now, but If you cant see the thing then it will do the job.

I found the 4mm ones. There are also 3.2mm ones but they are surface mount, which would be a pain.
