IME steppers can be as much of a pain as a blessing. In a DIY_EFI setup you don't want all the emission and soft landing stuff that they use steppers for in OEM applications, and PWM is less to go wrong. But having a choice is good. Although I wouldn't write off the unit for not having it, if it does provide a viable and affordable option for the A-series crowd

Saying 'even MS has one of those' is a tad misleading, as other than MS and Emerald very few aftermarket units support this until you get to £££ units.

i was always under the impression the sensor doesnt require any flow atall, simply that it is surrounded by the gas to be measured, the only need for flow would then be to provide the sensor with new gas to sample. but i could easily be wrong! cant seem to find any evidence online that can give me a clear cut answer either way.

You are right in that you do not need much flow, but it needs to be sufficient such that you are getting samples as they happen. With your idea, off boost there will be (effectively) zero pressure differential so no flow. On boost flow will increase with boost pressure as the differential will increase.

Innovate do a tailpipe probe that has a venturi to ensure that enough gas reaches the sensor. Sadly not something that helps in this case.

I do have a stash of L1H1 sensors, which are more robust that the LSU4. I need to make up some adaptors to see if I can run them off an LM-1, then they can be offered as sacraficial lambs

Don't mind Sprocket. He has decided to use VEMS and wants us all to do the same, so he knocks Megasquirt at every opportunity.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Bill. Whats actually needed to switch the LM-1 to using a L1H1 sensor ?

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

mine cost a tenner. converteing LM-1 to L1H1 should just be a drop down in the cal SW. Early LM-1 had a jumper. Lemmie check a newer one...hmm need to open it up and the documentation is missing for that.

I need to make up a lead and test it some time before I can pass judgement

Hi all,

I've had a friendly invite from Turbodave to post on here, hope the rest of you don't mind!

Thanks for the enthusiasm about the Canems ECU. Hopefully in the new year the system
will be tested with forced induction (albeit supercharged - the lambda/egt issue will always
be a problem with a turbo'd five port head).

I'm also arranging some independant tests on a relatively highly-tuned motor. Hopefully
the results will be useful to all of us in developing the A-series.

Cheers
Dave
