Milamber...

do you have any Aluminium stuff ?

I could do with a short piece of Alu bar, say 20mm diam, with a 6-8mm hole drilled through it ?
Basically a heavy tube ( needs to be for my welding *happy* )

how long???

Hi Carl. I think John Felstead has me sorted. He has drilled some 20mm bar and popped it in the post. Only concern is 20mm might not be enough though.
Its to make a small manifold for venting the steam pipes on my heads into my expansion tank. So I'll have it tapped at each end, and 4 along its length for 1/8" NPT ports.

But about 4" long, of 25mm diam would be enough plenty, 8.5mm hole in the middle for tapping 1/8" NPT.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

About a week ago Jason sent me some prototype brackets to have a play with, and after a week of sitting on my arse I had a go at fitting them.

Top bracket fits a treat :)

but as I can't leave things alone I decided to modify it a bit

got to say the top plate really stiffens them up.

The bottom mounts are giving me grief (not Jason's fault he made them to my drawings) as the shocks foul slightly on the lower wing at full travel :(

I think Steveo's design is the way to go, just need to have a chat with Fat Stig about suspension geometry.

Now all I need to do is redesign the bottom brackets (sorry Jason) and find somewhere with a laser cutter that can cut out the top brackets.

rob, fit the wheel you nitend to use, then move the bott damper mount outwards untill it is just clear of the wheel tyre combo, and then mock up some brackets in card , , i think you will find they can go out even further than you are showing here,

I offered up the wheel I intend to use as shown below, however as you can see I haven't got any tyres for them yet (and to make matters worse all my Mini wheels with tyres fitted are back at my house, so the best I could find in the workshop was a Midget wheel, don't laugh) anyway I think I've come up with a lower bracket that stops the shocks fouling on the body and and the same time shouldn't foul on the wheel:

Jason, if you want I can send you my home made brackets to measure up etc.

couldnt find this to save my life thanks jay and james. with the coilovers lowerd to bugery they foul on the subby, would it be dangerous to modify the subby to be able to use the std mounts for the shocks? also how low was the car before it started to foul?

perhaps change the angle of the coilover some how? Never seen a coilover setup on a mini to be honest...would be interesting to get a few pics up.

I might have the pictures somewhere, bear with me I'll see what I can do. If not I've definitely got the 2mm thick prototype in my workshop.

yeah I've got the other set of prototype brackets in my shed.

I've got a set of spax aswell.

I'm thinking bottom in 4mm steel to bring the damper right out close to the wheel as carl suggests.

and top mounts from 4mm ally simular to the spax ones.
