John, are the core plugs on the top, in the spark plug gallery, for coolant or oil ?

And

If you bring this sectioned head with you to Avon, I'll bring the block for some pictures *wink* 850 and 1275

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Dam it John, i have a full set of titanium valves here that would have worked nicely in that head

Sprock - sorry fella - let me dig the bits out again for that one!

Matt - don't worry I have another RS sitting on the bench ready if you want to send them up?

it would probably be like this one!

I've been digging again.

Has anyone looked into the possibility of opening up the chambers in these heads, Potentially to the 22cc mark?

Edit: To clarify the reason, If I can get 22cc in the head then I can use my existing 1380 engine as a base for the 16v turbo.

Hmm, or as discussed earlier on in the thread is adding metal a practical option?

I haven't had the need to open the chambers out much for most builds - my turbo K is running chambers at 20cc - I think you could eek a little more out or opt for a 6cc head gasket rather than a 3.5cc

on the assumption that I can get 21cc in the head, then that will give me a compression ratio of 9.7:1 which seems a little high for the intended 15psi of boost, thats with a bk450 and a dry decked head.

Unless I sell that engine and start from scratch then at least the 1mm head gasket provides an option to lower the compression to a level to allow around 12-14 psi.

Im running about 8.8/9.0:1 CR and have had 25psi through it. The engine didn't seem to mind it...the tyres seemed to struggle a bit though. lol

so.... Who has modified their k heads?
As I look at these inlet ports, and the heads on my bench, I feel like the entry of the inlet needs to ideally be raised. The bored section at the base of the guide leaves me undecided about how to improve it. At the least, tapering this bore, and rounding the intersection of the bore to the port seems like a start?
Any other opinions?

I do have a 16v K1100 head but I never messed with it so far. Shape wise it looks pretty good to the point where you really need a flowbench to see what your are doing.

I would start of the CSA's to see what you need size wise. Then use pitot readings to see how the speeds are distributed and then change shape accordingly. Commonly widening the SSR

Ever considered getting a flow quik? I have one (Robert has one too) with some tweaks and it is surprisingly good and not all that expensive.

$800 is expensive for something I'll use infrequently... Thinking I'll do a light clean up of this head, using my gut instinct on the ports and guide area, and just get it together...

I'm sure on turboharrys page he made reference to raising the port floor. The art of modifying these heads for maximum flow seems fairly guarded

LMAO !

Asking TURBOdave if he's going to use a turbo is a bit like asking the Pope if he goes to church often.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.
