As far as I know Simon is the only one that does the heads at morspeed, which is why heads can be slow to arrive. I do think he takes on too much work with too little staff, but it is difficult to turn jobs down. I know you might say I would feel better if he said to you sorry I have too much on, but how would that go down if the word got out that morspeed was so busy it was turning down job. The phone calls would soon stop.

I have to say that the head work I have had from simon has been of an excellent standard, but if I want machining done these days I would go elsewhere, most good machine/engine shops will do the block work for a good price and in a short time, you don't need an a series specialist for that IMO.

TD has it about summed up though.

I called an engine builder last week to get some parts, he told me, I can do them for you, but can't start the job for 2 months. I was happy with that, and he'll be doing the job for me. I know if I would have called some other engine builders they would have promised them to me the following week, but basicaly lied, knowing I'd not get them for months.

I can't handle people which lie, and IMO Simon falls deep into that gategory. Sorry Simon, but you just can't be trusted, don't think you know yourself sometimes when you are telling the truth.

I agree Jimster. He has told me all sorts of thins when I phone next time the job has gone backwards etc and they haven't done as much as what they say and so on. So how can trust that what he says to me now will actually happen.

I had my head Tig'g by Simon, I dropped it off weeks before I wanted it doing.

I got him to give me a completion date, and made sure he understood that I was only in the area once a week or so, so it had to be ready when he said.

The turn around was about three weeks, and he did a REALLY good job!

simons a top bloke, i have a lot of time for him. Compared to a lot of other engine builders hes fairly straight talking and does give sound advice. His cylidner head work, as others have mentioned, is very good.

personally i prefer the following little saying

Choose 2 of the three

Power, Cheap, Reliable.

You can have a powerfull engine which costs little, but it wont be reliable
You can have a powerfull engine which is reliable, but it wont be cheap
You can have a reliable engine which is cheap, but it wont be very powerfull

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

Well simon seems to have changed his attitude this morning. Maybe he has read this or my email.

He said he should have the pistons ready by 3pm today. If not then money back please!!!!!!!!!

Nope defo need a clue, who are they?

Simon assures me the pistons will be complete today and in the post tonight the fastest delivery service he can get. So I expect them to arrive monday I guess. The double grey is in, still few more parts like head gasket, belt tensioner, paddle clutch, other bits and bobs. So at least I should be able to get it all balanced and bottom end built up while I wait for few other bits.

So jimster was right about shouting loudest gets work done quicker.

To be fair I know Simon and shabs are really busy, But he did tell me 2 weeks not 2months.

I will keep you updated on progress

Not saying the quality of work is not good, it's actually very good. But if you want it anytime soon I would see what else is around first.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

As I always say if you leave things to the last minute you will be disappointed occassionaly when they arrive later than you'd like!!

I'm collecting bits now for a build that I probably won't start to next year ... at least I won't be waiting for anything!

As TD said earlier cheap, quick, good!!!

Would you use a plumber, sparky, roofer etc. that you rang up and could come around the same day???? I certainly wouldn't ...... good people are always busy ....... if people aren't busy then maybe they aren't good!!!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...
