With that amount of work to do, make sure you brace the door shuts with steel tubing to make sure the shell doesnt distort or twist.

Paul is right, will need bracing hence why I have spent so much time making up my chassis jig.

For the door bracing I made up bars from some 1" dia tubing. A slot cut in each end (about 4mm think so it goes over multi skinned pannels) terminating into a 1/2" drilled hole. At right angles a through hole is drilled for an M6 bolt so the slot can be clamped closed when in place.
To make it adjustable it is cut in two and a thick bush welded in one end with a 12mm hole through it. The other piece then has a similar bush but with an M12 thread in it. This allows some studding to be fitted and by using a washer against the bush with the through hole and four nuts (one welded to the centre of the studding, one to lock the studding against the threaded bush and two to lock to through hol bush) the appature can be pre loaded such that any welding can't result in the appature shrinking.

I am probalby going to make up something similar but with 90 deg ends to go side to side but in my experience this is less of a problem (unless romoving the whole floorpan side section or more).

Sounds like what was needed on my old pickup that i never ended up doing. wonder where that is now...

Remember this was done up Mini in 1999. The owner said it was a good paint job....trust me he was sooooo right. Still i want a Van so I've got to dig deep....

My progress has been slow, just putting the floor in at the moment.
Was yours as holy as mini?

Candice's car wasn't that bad but I am fussy so changing quite a few panels anyway!

My progress has also been slow, work commitments, holiday, illness, deaths in the family and a broken arm! Not what you'd call a great year to be trying to build a Mini ... LOL ... I'll get there.

Just been in the garage tonight playing with the floor.....I'll post some pictures tomorrow night as I'm having an issue lining it up and need some advice. I'll need luck with evening thing I got to weld on this....plus were moving in 7 weeks and Dexter is going into store I don't know how long :( Any to bed now. Cheers, M

Having an issue with lining the floor up. It's a complete new floor from Minimachine, Tunnel, Cross memer, Rear step, both floors, inner sills and outer sills. With the floor sitting on the tunnel at the front......like below



I jacked up the rear so it touches the load bed but it hits the load bed at the front just behind the door, but leaves the rear away from the load bed (see next shot).





Can anyone suggest where I'm going wrong or what I need to chop away. The old floor at the fron is still there a little and my thinking is I need to chop it back a little more to drop the front down more. Any thoughts will be very gratefully recieved as I don't wanna bugger this up or the floor (£550 worth!!!) .

The only thing I'm going to say is M Machine panels are hand made as far as I know.... Unfortunately they're the only company that make non saloon panels.

Hi,
2 things to consider here:
1 .. No 2 minis are dimensionally the same, after all on the line they just mole gripped the panels together and spot welded them!
2 .. Check with M Machine to see if its an over fitting panel, and if it needs modding to fit?
I have to be honest and say I cheated with my "new" floor but it won't work on a van or pick up :(

thanks dude for replying. Spoke to mini machine and the rear load bed changed over the years it seems. Theirs is for the flat kind where mine has a raise bit which comes into the cabin/load area.....so that accounts for the 5mm gap......so its a case of convince the load bed to move down

lol....thats what I have too.....steps in steps out....the orignal van was straight so I'm plugging spot weld hols in the load bed. Still I can't wait for that feeling when he's done and I can say i did that.....(it better feel good....)

Looks like you're making good progress mate! Wishing I'd had me shell shot blasted now, but hindsight is 20/20.
If you're in need of an extra hand at some point, just give me a yell since I am local to you :)

Thanks for the offer Mr Badger....I got the lump hammer out and a blow tourch last night and modded the load bed to the new inner sills.

Final fitting tonight then welding it in tomorrow....then it's onto new door steps and side repairs both sides...

It's called moving house in 5 weeks and she needs to be rolling.... but hoepfully welded up completely....a tall order but as we're moving in with my outlaws and the cars going into storage that will be shell restoration halted.....I'll only have room to work on the engine.....
