What gauge steel would you reccomend for replacing the metal you've cut out?

Also does the rear quater warp easily when doing this?

Hi,
I used some 1.8 mm off cuts I had lying around. Seemed about the right thickness.
Yes you can warp the quarters easily, tack every 6" round then leave to cool then a tack in between and so on.
I used Frost's Cool Front, excellent stuff *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

you can warp the quarters yes, but as already been said, little welds, leave to cool then go back over again later.

Mine warped because I started sunday evening and had to drive to work the next day, stop. Filler time!

Also I used a section from a 50gal. steel drum because its the same gauge as the shell 1.3mm IIRC.

It is already curved and you just roll it up, hold in place then let go and it springs to fill the hole and stays in place, you can then just trim and weld.

*happy*

Yeah mine warped to. Now it's gonna be a bitch to try and fill in all the ripples and rock hard to rub down the small section between the new arch lip and the quarter panel too rear panel section...... The fun never ends. *Rofl!*

Can you get standard size arches over tubbed arches?

dont think so mate, i have my roundy marked up ready for the chop and remember removing my standard arches from my clubby, i recon there will be a big gap at the top of the wheel well.

I offered up a front wheel arch on the rear tubbed arch and with a bit of jiggery pokery it would fit. You have to use the opposite side front arch on the rear arch (if that makes sense). The car would look proper low. *happy*

Just after some help here, i've started to tub the arches on mine, but im unsure whether or not to do an overlap or butt it together, i can't tell what others have done by the pictures.

This is what i have done so far, ive done a 10mm overlap but im now thinking of butting it together.

I butt welded mine in, an overlap is going to add a bit of weight, all depends how keen you want to be.

Thanks Jim, i think i will butt it together, for looks more than weight.

Also would .8mm be too thin then?
