I'm thinking on using brass plugs on all but the ones that the studs fix to. Had to use a couple on the current block.

Progress is coming on mate, looking good.

I pluged the holes with cast bar first the weld was basically just to seal the holes.

Hopefully it won't cause a problem. I am considering dry deck like Jim. Only need to block the front coolant holes.

Not being funny about the dry deck thing, but after reading this, id be inclined to leave some small holes at the intersections between the bores. Theory being that this is where steam would build up, thereby creating a hot spot increasing the chances of detonation.

If you dont believe me have a read of this and make your own mind up. http://www.ttmtechnical.com/cooling.html

I know Jimsters is dry decked and I fully understand the reasons why.

BMW never put three little holes at the back of the block between the bores for no reason *wink*

interesting reading. I don't know about my combustion temps but I know my engine was running too cool on the rollers, and we kept on having to turn the fan off to get the temps above 70 degrees

Was that with the elecy pump? Which pump was it? part number? cos ive bought a Webasto pump for heat soak, im inclined to keep the mech pump and work round it. After all Im aiming to use this not so much as a daily driver, but to do some miles in it. Endurance is my aim. If its going to overheat on a hot day on a long drive, im deffo keeping the mech pump. But like you said, you were finding it difficult keeping it warm.

We are all pioneers in this pretty unknown teratory. Interesting to see how things pan out with all these different conversions.

Pumping all the coolant to the head seems to be the thing to do, but the flow at the back of the block is poor even on a standard engine, those three little holes may be very important .

I use an electric pump, but all the part numbers have long gone. It is the same one which KAD sell.

This same pump is the one that would still allow the A-series to get too hot isn't it Jim?

All that's different is the head (and dry decking) and the rad.

I reckon you'd be best covering up half the rad next time you're on the rollers Jim. Keeping the RR fan on reduces heat-soak into the intercooler for sure...

I had planned to run mine on a standard water pump and currently have mine as a dry deck, but hopefully nat asp mine won't see as much temperature as well as being an everyday "reliable" car.

Out of interest, what have people done about thermostats? Or are you not running them on these drag cars to save weight??

And....one final thing, do we know on the release date of the K1100minis.co.uk forum??

Yes dave, this is the same pump which casued my A series 5 port engine to over heat all the time

I don't use a thermostat at the moment, but I think I may have to run one.

Why not use an electronic pump controller?
