i just love the effort you put into this car, this is beyond upgrading or restauration...to me it's completely reinventing the wheel, regardless of the cost, just to make it better and for that you deserve a lot of credit in my book mate!

Well,,

The shell was getting tired and I was never happy with the work on it the first time around, so it made perfect sense to me to re do the body, now Its been opened up like a can of beans there was lots of stuff I was not even aware of! Lots of filler in places where there should not be, 3 inner Flichs was found.. And lots more..

As for reinventing the wheel 🤔🤔 why not ? lol.

cost well we never chat about cash on here, but I only do what I can with out going short, I have stuff I am fitting this time around that I have sat for a long time.

I like the challenge it brings tbh and I love finding a way around stuff, like that boot lock that was 8hrs non stop worth of work and I Finnish it at 01:00 as I set the task of only hand tools apart from the lathe.

I have lots more little bits and bobs that I have done but I try not to post lots of boring pics here. As I will wait for when it's done.

I do think there is better cars on here now a days and mine was just not as good as i could of had it! Like as an example I cut the frount panel to fit the rad with a hacksaw blade with some tape on it, the inner wing looked like it was cut out with a tin opener 😂

Looking good

I know you said you weren't bothered before but it will look so much better with that MK1 MMachine floorpan in and has got to add value from an originality point? Is that a full skirt front panel as well?

Are the rest of the panels such as the front wings and rear side / quarter panels Heritage or MMachine, I've never had anything from MMachine so I don't know which bits they sell are Heritage or there 'own' ?

Glad to hear your on the mend

Cheers

Think of the drag... IF it's full skirt then less air hitting a rotating wheel....

Hi mate,

Yes i think over time it just bugged me lol that it was not right! So that's why I have swapped it, as for value I don't think I will ever sell it... I did have the chance 3 or 4 years ago but turned the bloke down 😂 What a mug I am lol.

Yes it's a full skirt, Dave I am am happy with the weight as long as it looks nice

It's an odd one mate as I asked for mk1 parts and they send what are BMH but they have modded them for mk1. But all so they make there own mk1 panels.

These are the Panels I ordered from them, they was very very helpful, like the floor I had some things I wanted some stuff different than normal, I asked for them to turn up on a set date and they was here.

11.12.00.29 boot hinge rail
11.21.00.17 inner A panel L
11.21.00.18 inner A panel R
13.14.00.18 rear 1/4 Lh mk3
11.14.00.39 door step Lh
11.14.00.40 door step Rh
13.16.00.09 w screen scuttle
11.17.01.01 LH wing 59-84
11.17.01.02 RH wing 59-84
11.18.00.00 F panel 59-64
11.21.00.02 inner wing Rh mk1
00.00.00 inner wing Lh Lh
11.31.04.57 floor 1/4 Lh
11.31.04.58 floor 1/4 Rh
11.35.00.05 gear surround
11.41.19.00 rear bulkhead

What I would say is some of there stuff the finish of some of the stuff is a bit rough, and I was a bit shocked when I opened the box.

Simon.

Looks good mate. You will feel so good about it after doing the body yourself

I seriously doubt it!

Quarry Bonk

Jake bought Mmachine half floors for his clubby estate, the finish of them was absolutely shocking, creases everywhere in the panel and the tunnel edge was wonky from the pressing. But with a lot of fettling they're in, did look to fit nicely though, no nasty surprises.

Well chaps,

It's been a long 16 days but it's getting there!

Paul most of the skilled work has been done by a bloke I know, but I have been doing as much as I can on it over the last 16 days, as it was also good to work with someone who can show me some new skills! As every day is a school day.

As I post this the mk1 is at the body shop for its first coat of primer as there is a lot of bear steel on it. Then back for some more work here and there.

I am still on track for my dead line, and just on budget as planned 😀

Looking really good Simon

Makes my 'progress' look like a lazy afternoons work

Looks like you've gone for rally style sill axle stand holes which I plan to do as well, I have the axle stands already, I was even planning to put the rear hole in what looks like the same place as yours as it passes through the stiffener for the rear subframe mounts

I spy some inner sill swagged holes too

Are you going to weigh the bare shell when it's done, it would be interesting as a comparison as I plan to weigh mine when I'm finished, it was 98kg before I started on it's latest diet

Thanks but I can't take all the Credit

Yes mate I am using sill stands, as it seemed like a good idea When the floor was out.

At the rear it goes through the double steel at the front it was tied in to the door pillar.

For sure I am going to weigh it 😂 It would be rude not to, saving weight was the key when the new body panels were fitted, and lots were lighted before fitting.

Yeah I have gone as far as I have panel replacement wise for the same reason, you can get at all the brackets and stiffeners that you don't need plus all the underseal / seam sealer, plates welded on plates as bodges, all adds up as well you know *wink*
