My new welder came last week so I got on and stuck the new quarter panel on.

Looks OK at a distance, but I'm not at all happy with the B and C pillars.

It's sat 2-3mm into the door shut and is curved out towards the bottom. I think that will be coming off again in favour of a genuine one. I'll make a decision once I've had a go at fitting the different manufacturers pattern quarter to the other side.

I spent Sunday learning to weld again and generally tidying up the boot floor repairs/modifications. The new welder is completely different to my old one. I guess not being fooked helps...

Just been out and refitted the radius arm to the ream subframe. Hoping to get it back on it's wheels and make a start on the drivers side sills this weekend.

Out of interest why did you weld it on with such a big gap there?

I think I know the problem!

From where you extended the corner of the floor, and fitted the wheel arch, and the fact that the lip of the wheel arch closing panel is in tucked underneath the wheel arch instead of butting up against it....I would say your wheel arch is probably positioned 3-4mm too far forward. How did you fix this gap in the end?

It's a Hadiran Panel. It fits nicely at the top of the B pillar and is OK for about 6" down the post, after that it is just the wrong shape.

Tomf - good question. I think it pulled away from the rear a bit more once I had started welding..

Matty - I'm confident the arch closing panel is in the correct place as I lined it up on the paint lines left by the old one. The arch is sat in the middle of the cut out in the boot floor. I had to extend the boot floor as it had been pressed at a funny angle. It needed over 1" taking of the passenger side and didn't meet the arch on the drivers side for about half the overlap. I've deliberatly left two much on at each end.

To get the lowest part where it should I hammered it flat, took a lump out of the end of my thumb with the hammer and then folded it again in the correct place.

I'm thinking (hoping) it's the panel. It was cheep at a show, probably for good reason.

The bit above the green line is just about perfect. The bit to the left of the left red line and the right of the right red line are both miles out. Even the lowest diagnal bit where it joins to the end of the door step had to be trimmed to fit. The shape above the arch is right it just bulges out in front of it.

I'm going to try the passenger side when I get that far and see what I think to the magnum panel. IF it's better I may get one for the driver's side. If not it's an expensive shop with BMH again...

Be right. Nothing a bit of time with a spot weld drill won't sort *wink*

It can stay like that for a while I think...

That's just what I thought when I looked at it! I put a similar number of spot welds on a pattern panel I decided to remove, I found it quicker to grind the seam off.

If it won't clamp up along the C post it's going to be really difficult to correct it now, it will probably be easier to replace the panel with a heritage one.

Might be easier to de-seam the whole car.

Deseamed is not my cup of Tea. There's a new geuine rear panel waiting to go on, so I'll probably just add a couple of heritage quarter panels to the pile...

Got the drivers side sill sorted.

Spun it round and then made a bit of a hole in the passenger side.

New heritage quarter panel is on the way. Looks like I'll be needing another arch closing panel.

This is coming together nicely! I'll be watching this as I think I'll need to do the same sort of work on mine soon.
