Maybe just check the oil pump aswell. When I blew my box, I coasted in neutral with the engine running at idle for about 50 meters and the oil pump was totally wrecked. The filter did a good job as all the bearing where still tip top.

Alright Dave, it feels bloodey quick to me! Although thats comming from a stage 1 998, very torquey, an really drivable to me without being rediculous. I really enjoy it.

Just thought I'd update this...

Collected this from Benross saturday

Took the plunge and went full straight cut with a minispares Clubman gearset. I was originally just going to run with SC drops, but while its out I decided to save myself future hassle and grief.

As it stands today -

Just got to fit the transfer casing, clutch and it can go back in. I'm desperate to have it built for this weekend so I get a few days solid driving to problem solve etc.

Are you still on the standard Verto clutch? I don't see that lasting long when you wind the boost up!

For the time being I'm on the verto. The next 2 things on the list are intercooler then clutch and flywheel. Just need the pennies again now!

I found my standard turbo Verto never slipped even at 15psi.

Everyone has different experiences though.

Just thought I'd update this, the minis had a preety crap 10 months for the mini. It's sat on my garden doing not much. Found a new job, had a fair bit on with that and stuff so the mini took abit of a back seat. Especially after crich mini show last year when I was driving back and the clutch gave up. Having to drive 20 miles in 2nd gear with no clutch at all wasn't the best.

Now it's out of MOT an tax I decided to do all the job on it that I never could afford before.. plans are to fit an MED stage 2 clutch kit, IC, an megajolt. The shells getting the front half of the rollcage fitted along with a dash bar an low door bars, maybe a bar running between the rear hoop to from side to side. I got stuck back in this weekend thou an pulled the rear bins out an the rear seat squab.

Just got to tidy up the welds on the front triangles, an tidy up the other side of the squab then the whole back of the car can have a fresh coat of paint.

Good to see your still doing it Tom!

Will you be running a standard seat self still?

Do those triangles at the bottom of the b pillar have anything to do with new mounts ?

Opps I should update this abit I think...

I got round to fitting the rest of the cage, I bought a few meters of 38mm CDS to make new door bars an a dash bar from, aswell as some mild steel cage saddles to hold it all in place, the cage now looks like this,

I know the bars aren't going to offer as much protection as higher bars, but as a road car I'd still like to be able to get in fairly easy, an get out even easier if it ever catches fire or something bad happens. Also worked a harness bar into the rear of the cage, which is all now at a local fabricators getting shotblasted an seam welded up. I only tacked the bars an saddles in place, my weldings no where near good enough or my welder powerful enough for this thickness. I've welded in the cage strengthening plates thou ready for when it comes back.

Bought a non servo pedal box an yellow tag MC to go with it to make some more space in the bay..

Also picked up a mk1 Center binnacle at MITP in really good nick, I've fitted it for the time being but it'll be coming back out before the cars back on the road to be fettled an cleaned.

Picked up a bargain on Ebay the other night too, a lightened verto fly wheel, with Valeo Metro Turbo clutch kit all brand new for £135 which I'm off to fetch tomorow. Should make a nice base for an RTS setup :).

Bought a set of Works Dash boxes from ebay too a few weeks ago, spent a few nights deciding on a layout of my switches an dials. Committed to a final idea tonight an this was the end result...

Fairly happy with it, although looking at it now I dunno if it looks to 'neat'..

Anyway, there should be a few more updates coming over the next few months an it should start looking more an more like a car hopefully. I'm wanting to get it on the road for next spring so I can use it as a weekend toy an start to enjoy it again! Its abit gutting to see it stood there not doing much.

Should update this more often. Been chipping away at this slowly over the past few months, bought some new seats, cage went off to a fabricator for him to tig the saddles properly. I've also been working on the shell. Welded the spreader plates in place an got everything painted up.

Covered my dash boxes..

Rebuilt my center binacle too..

I'm hoping to get the cage an seats etc back in tomorow so all the big jobs are done before I go back to work. Bought some fluted rubber to use on the floor too apposed to carpet. Should be a nice alternative hopefully an look half decent too.

Cheers

Got a bit more done over the past few days, cage, seats an column is in. Dash is in place but I need to knock up some trim to go around the binnacle an close the dash boxes in.

Really chuffed with it. Cage padding is on the way an I have a new harness to fasten in the passengers side which I'll hopefully get in today.

Anybody know of the recomended bolts to use for a bolt in cage? At the minute I've got some high tensile steel m10s tying it to the body an m8s on all the joints. These be sufficient? If anybody has any other suggestions etc please shout up, I want to use as good as I can as my harnesses are mounted to the cage, so I'd like to know its the best it could be.

8.8 M8 is min specified by the MSA. I use M10 8.8 on the feet and M8 8.8 on the joints as you describe.

Perfect, cheers wil. All the bolts are 8.8 grade so should be spot on.

Boxed in around the center binnacle today, didn't get that much time on the car today so made the most of it.

It looks really shit an tacky in the picture but I'm really chuffed with it.

It's 3mm flutted rubber sheet. I don't really like carpets in minis unless it's a moulded mpi set which wouldn't suit now the bins are out. I'm chuffed with it, just the front to do now. Suits the interior I think.

I quite like that, easy to hoover off all the bits and crumbs and stuff! How have you stuck it to the floor?

Yeah I'm hoping the cage feet will keep it down, an I've slashed abit of contact adhesive on the inner sills to keep that in place an along the back of the cross member.

Few bits an bobs left to do but its all about there now. Just need to sort out if I'm going the whole hog an putting an internal shift in or just a quickshift. I was dead set on internal but I doubt I'd see any gain, just hassle so I think I'll order a lad quickshift next week. Heated front screen going back in too :) I've got some rubber left so might have a crack at the front again too, its not bad but I think I can improve on it.
