We are still doing well (yay!) I went on the A4069 for a drive on Sunday which was fun, it's a bit twisty to say the least . We did our last oil change the weekend before last too so he should be good until April or so when we get a service done. I'm so chuffed we have had no running in problems other than the little bit of a fuel leak haha.

Haha, I don't think so! It's really nice to drive atm just a bit thirsty, not a crazy amount though! I'm not changing anything for a while now, boring I know but maybe we will whack it up to 10psi next summer. We are concentrating on getting Carls on the road for next spring(I can dream!)/summer now so I can't afford for mine to break haha!

He didn't mess with the needle on the rolling road to be honest, I assume it needs a wider needle at the bottom to lean it off on part throttle? Then just profiled the same as the BDD when boost kicks in! They don't die, they just get faster! |

how come he didn't do the needle? That was one of the main things vesseys did on mine.

I'm not sure to be honest, he spent quite a while sorting out the map because he started from nothing as the one we had was totally unsuitable. To be fair he didn't get home until 2am the morning we showed up because he'd been racing in Europe and broke down on the way back from the ferry and had to repair his van by the roadside. Last thing I'd want to 8 hours later is sit in a mini for more than two hours tuning it haha. I'm not greatly bothered by him not doing the needle while I was there last, just wondering which needle would be the best to make it leaner off boost and profile.

Is your part throttle lean off pipe connected put of interest?? If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

it drives all fine and stuff but fuel wise it's using more than it should due to running to rich off boost, Which needle would you guys recommend going to from the BDD which is in there now? Hopefully I can get it done either the start of December when I'm up Dwdley next or some time in January. if that bdd is standard it should be excellent off boost, you might want to try giving it more fuel on boost and then leaning the whole needle off with the idle mixture screw Yes i moved to the darkside

Surely not if the needle is for a 1275 not a 998?! On boost its perfect! It has been suggested to try the same needle as I had in my old carb whichever is for a stage 1 kit, I don't know!

For a start your 998 needle will be for a 1.5" carb not a 1 3/4 so it will not work at all! If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

I'd take it to a rolling road that is happy getting their hands dirty. The ignition map really is only a small piece of the puzzle.

The current needle idles fine on 14:1 and as soon as you start driving pretty much stays on 12:1 whether youre on boost or not throughout the whole rev range. If the part throttle lean off didn't make the car run like a sack of crap, the fuelling would be perfect. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

Yeah, I'm aware of that which is why I was asking about how it would be better to lean it off a bit just where it needs it, if another needle modified would be the better way to go. I'm limited with rolling roads really, I'm not aware of anyone local to me that does carbs then it's limited to someone fitting me in at weekends. If I could I'd have gone back to Southam but he was busy for 6 weeks :(.

try the lean off pipe , but stick a tiny jet in it between the two attachment points ,if its still too rich ,make the jet bigger , if its too lean ,make it smaller . you could use a valve , but it would have to be very fine in its adjustment.
