its the shot duration cam , i think the mpi ones had more duration .

the cam i have in my 1.4 is the 1.3s cam , this has a power band from 2500 to 6500rpm with a turbo .

i want to try a soft cam in mine for more bottom end , but the only one i have is a bit spotty .

Ah I see, thanks for letting me know.

I did think about sticking a Newman cam in it but decided Id see how the car performed with the standard one in for the time being :)

i think with a bigger ic and turbo , my stock 1.3s cam , which may well be the same as the mpi 1.4 and 1.6 cam , would be peaking at 7k ish . its a stonker for high power .

if i was running petrol i reckon it would make around 200 bhp on 13 psi.

Cripes! Ive been told be a few people that there a cracking little engine.

What box are you running, ive managed to get hold of an F15 Wide Ratio but the F17 is supposedly a stronger unit?

i am on the CR f17 i think ,3.54 diff , its the 1.6 16v box that was in the car .5th is a bit low but over all its good , i may try to fit the higher 5th at some point .

on 195/50 15 i am at 23/1000rpm in 5th so 70 is 3k 80 around 3.5.

with the softer cam i hope to lower the trq peak 500 rpm ,and run the higher 5th for better motorway economy.

Sounds like what im after to be fair mate, something that cruises ok without screaming its tits off.

The engine is SZR block that have dished pistons but the with Z16SE head with no beak which should lower the compression a tad.

I see you have ported your head. Its something ill look to do in the future but for now ill keep it standard. I plan on running about 10psi to start then creeping it up to bar once its setup.

If i get 150hp ill be happy to be honest.

Managed to get the Intercooler Mounted and plumbed in.

I literally cant believe the bonnet fits but it does. Next on the list is Injector rail, fuel lines, ingition module, fill it with fluids, new sparks.

And its ready for the first turn of the key *Clapping*

That's one big IC!

Will it not get a little warm being right above the mani. Suppose there isn't much choice though.

How does the IC get any air flow through it?

Yeah, cant decide wether to go circles or triangles. I vaguely remember someone running triangles from way back in the days on Avon BMS.

Ive also pondered on the idea of making some form of duct down toward the grill to force air up a bit too.

The rear of bonnet stands proud so air should escape out and up the windscreen.

I like the triange idea, think it might have been turbo tims car that went on to be the frog2?

i seem to remember robert doing a wool tuft test on the jacked up bonet rear, IIRC the windscreen pushes air down under the bonet and it exits at the sides. I think that carbon wezel wind tunnel test confirmed this.

Ah right, well the bonnet is upped at the back due to the massive bulge. But i suppose I could cap it off with a sheet of FB to stop that from happening.

There was an article in a previous mini magazine/world issue that looked at areodynamics, and that also showed that air does not exit the rear of a jacked up bonnet, unless you are driving very slowly.

So all the racers that jacked up the back of the bonnet weren't getting the effect they thought for areo or cooling.

It is most areo with the bonnet in the normal position, with gaps sealed.

I think capping off the rear of the bonnet is in order then. The IC should get some good air as the gap above between that and the bonnet is very small so all air will be force through it (in theory lol)
