Robert, The bonnet was off when it was being dynoed. KAD set the carbs up and it came as is. Nothing has been changed on the setup.

The belt hasnt been off and the timing marks are the cam wheels are still bang on at TDC. This engine is as built by KAD.

matt ,was that rr run with the bonnet on ?
i had a cortina rally on my rr once , it lost 25 bhp with the bonnet on compared to off .
also , did kad test it with the short bellmouths ?

The "don't bump start a KAD engine" comes from the very early ones when they used the old square toothed pulleys and belts
we had one , there were issues , then they went to the better design as and when available
your talking 1991 history though

An at the wheels figure is pretty meaningless. Take it to Northhampton, and get a proper figure with a rundown test.

The gearset is from a bloke in birmingham in a shed somehwere, apparently he brought the tranX designs and carried on making the gears. He supplies Minispares, Min-its etc.

Its a SCCR box with a 3.6 final drive.

Straight cut drops too. I was losing 17bhp to from the fly to the wheels apparently.

The timing was checked with a strobe to start off with, then twiddled about a bit. Yeah i put fresh fuel in that day.

if it feels the same to drive i wouldnt worry about it too much mate, all rollers are different, the numbers are only really useful for doing back to back tests on the same dyno
wait until you have had in on Northhamptons rollers for a more accurate comparison to other TM cars

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

If I have read the graphs correctly KAD got 149 @ crank at 7750rpm. Assuming an average of 22 hp per 1000rpm on a dead straight line, if you rev to 6500 you would 27.5 hp shy of peak any way. Your motor makes 32.5% of its power above 5500rpm. Not untypical of 16v na engines but if you want to see peak power you need to see to rev's as scary as it may sound on the rollers. I would be more intrigued to know why it stopped making any more power and flat lined. Did you start to get wheel spin?

Looks very similar to my graph when I got a load of clutch slip. Torque dropped off but as the revs increased the HP stayed the same.

The reason it wasnt taken to 7500rpm on the power run was because the power just faded away.

Perhaps we were spinning up on the rollers? But i didnt see any smoke and the tyres dont seem to have worn any.

Clutch slip is something to think about, but i didnt notice that burning smell and it is a grey cover after all.

The belt hasnt jumped because the timing marks all line up.

The car feels as good as ever and mighty fast. If its not the engine which i am positive it isnt, it must be wheel spin or something to do with the dyno set up.

No disrespect to Peter he spent the whole day with the car trying to get the figures and ended up not charging me for the day because he was as disappointed as me.

Hoping to see better figures at Northampton, ill be ringing them on monday.

I only managed 155bhp on a grey and my clutch slipped. It wasn't noticable on the road really as the engine still felt like it was pulling well still, on the rollers it was obvious.

If you can't find anything else wrong, it might be worth whipping the flywheel off and seeing if there are any hot spots.

It's unlikely he's making anywhere near the torque most of us Turbo boys are though, so I'd think a grey would be more than enough as long as it's all good.

mixture ok throughout the run ? maybe a bad fuel pump ? or collapsed silencer blocking flow ?

Hmmm well, the exhaust isn't that old and it all looks good. The mixture looked good too. This is a really weird one for me with this car.

When the flywheel was just put back in there were not hot spots Matty. I'm only making 109ftlbs which is low compared to you lot
