Mansfield - Notts

Afraid not Andy, off out with the missus' family for the evening Saturday and sunday I've been roped in at work :(

I'd love to come along, next time thou!

It would be MOT'd by now if I weren't still waiting on my tyres. They will be here and fitted tomorrow then I'll be straight back to the test center!

Cheers chaps, I'm rather pleased with myself. I've done a few mechanical bits and bobs before but nothing quite as epic as a full car rebuild. Chuffed with the outcome!

My thumbs arent that small, not beadle-esque.

Just popped out to get some bits and bobs so I can give it a good clean tomorow, completely forgot how much fun this car is. 2nd gear pulls sooo well.

I don't think I ever posted this...

101bhp, 115ft/lb at 9psi *happy*

Anyway, onto the new updates...

I've started working full time recentley so I can afford to splash some more money on the mini, next to come are SC drops, and fitting the X-Pin diff I bought a while ago. I also hope to finally get that intercooler in soon too!

Hopefully I'll be fitting a new dash too, I can't decide between a fiberglass style dash or a mk1 type dash with the center speedo.

Watch this space!

Welcome back Tom.

Have you got an SC box Tom? Or are you just thinking of going down the SC drops route?

Just SC drops for now, I don't intend on going for mad boost with it still being a everyday car.

I'm hoping to attend some of the shows this year Andy. I'll hopefully be at Avon, Combe an MITP. I'm off to Bingley this weekend to try and pick up a few bits I need. Hows the clubby comming along Andy??

Very good.

Still chopping through the rust. New roof is on though. Probably see you at Bingley then.

If you use the car as a road car you may find SC drops a bit on the loud side.

Robert on here has proven that with an SC box you can use helical drops and run some serious power without things going wrong.

Might be something worth looking into if you don't want to wear ear defenders when driving.

I am going down the SC box, helical drop route on my clubby for this reason.
Obviously I will be making sure everthing is tip top on the helical drop arrangement upon build.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I doubt I'll be to bothered by the SC noise tooo much (He says that now....). I've been in a few SC mini and not been to phased by the noise, I find that cruising at speed the noise is overcome by the rumble from the exhaust. That an the mini won't be my daily car for long, I'm on the lookout for a cheap runabout so I can keep the mini in the garage until sunny days and shows etc.

I made a start today on the mini, first things first!

I'll be ordering some parts tomorrow, whats the general consensus on ideal sizes for the SC drops? I've been reading and 23-30-23 seems to be the one to go for, keeps it 1-1 and apparently (according to Calver) it keeps the strongest Input gear (I doubt that'll matter in my application, but it'd still make sense to go for it regardless in my books...

Right, Well I thought I'd post some progress...

The reason the car cam off the road was due to it making a clicking noise when the wheels rotated, I thought it was the diff that had eat shit to be honest, but it would appear not...

It's a good job I bought these...

Also a left lower gearbox steady there too, just to keep it a bit more solid.

Just got to find a way of flushing all the crud out my engine now. A hell of a lot came out with the oil, so hopefully there can't be much more in there. Although I'm sure there will be.

Doh!

Looks like you've suffered side loading and twisting on the drops. I would be checking that the bearings in the box are all good and make 100% certain that you shim the new gears correctly.

I'm taking my gearbox up to Benross friday, need a hand fitting my x-pin diff so I'm sure he will give it a once over and spot any problems if there is anything a miss.

I'll have a look what the internals are looking like thou, but I agree with you on the strip down. May aswell considering it's broken down this far.

Hi Tom, just spent about an hour reading all this thread!
Top stuff mate, seems there are 100 hours in a day on your planet *smiley* There's a few pics of mine on here under 'new member pics', I've never had any probs with pressed alloy plates on my car... and I took my fog light off after the mot as it looked shite on a mk1 stylee. I'll post some more pics on mine as soon as I can work out how to do it! Keep it up mate, looking forward to meeting up in the summer!
