I gave up trying to seperate mine but now hearing success with a BFH I might have a go with one.

After reading this, I'm going to chance the fact the one I removed from a car 2 weeks ago is good. I was contemplating rebuilding it.

On another subject, when redrilling the metro manifold what have people used to block the existing holes for the t3 studs? or just cut the studs off flush with the manifold face.

Sorry for the thread hi-jack

I think Robert and Mike have both cut slots in the GT17's exhaust flange.

This is how I plan to do it as well.

Ok, hammer time

Another question. How are people holding these and with what?

I have already removed the compressor housing, that was a piece of piss :)

Put the compressor housing back on to give you something to hold it with and stop the compressor wheel being damaged.

I held mine by hand to prevent damage. The shock from the BFH on the turbine housing should unstick it.

I would put that straight in the bin and not waste time taking it to bits :)

Want to see how much else is FUBAR'd, might just need a compressor wheel, but im not holding my hopes up. I bought it for moching up for a tenner for the lads trouble so its no issue if its totaly gone. The compressor housing shows no sight of damage and the wheel is only damaged on the tips.

Anyone got a spare compressor wheel *happy*

thought id update this with new graphs at higher boost from the rr shootout ,,

corrected to stp. superflow stylee.

running no fan on ic ,ic warm to touch .

and 15 degrees timing , id expect 200bhp at 16psi on more timing and cooler ic .

clutch did not slip on rr ,when racing it slipped like a barstard in 3rd , in fact i thought id got neutral , so it definately makes more power with a good cooling lflow through the ic (well duhh)
bhp at 12 psi was 168
bhp at 15 psi was 183
bhp at 16 psi was 188.

so so far so good . :) *smiley*

how is it that it's making such high power at just 12psi Robert? is that typical of other gt17 setups, or is yours a bit more special than most?

Both the Gt1752 runners at the rolling road day were getting a high power output for the engine size and boost.

I put it down to a high efficiency compressor and turbine design. So the compressor generates the boost with minimal heat input and the turbine takes less back pressure to drive the compressor. It's a win win situation.

pauls probably right , its all down to the gt17 , apart from that the engine is nothing special *smiley*

once everyone else is on a gt17 ,they'll probably be more powerfull than mine . *crying*

Robert, its nothing to do with the GT17, its down to all that driver input twiddling the MBC and tweeking the choke *wink*

*hehe!*

I best get practising at pulling the choke in a more skillful manner then!

My GT17 should be in the post about now :)

Forgive me if this has already been covered, I did do a search, but couldn't find anything about it.

Are people plumbing the water cooling in on the GT17's? or just the oil feed only?

I've read quite a bit about water cooling causing issues as the turbo just heats up the coolant too much.

I'll be running a cinq front mounted rad if that makes any difference....

Prawn, I don't think the water flow (heat capacity) through the turbo may affect the heat exchange rate of the engine.

I was more thinking that if the turbo is running at a silly high temperature, it could raise the coolant temperature above that at which the engine would normally run, thus reducing the coolants ability to cool the engine.
