Agreed Joe...I was quite suprised how soft the original rivets were!

Making sure it is well balanced is critical. Im also making some sleeves up like Paul has, to stop the spring plates from sliding off centre.

Its not the rivets Im afraid of, its a heavy cast iron verto flywheel at 8500rpm *happy*

Lightening it can only weaken it? It'll probably be alright, but for how long? I'd much rather use the Minispares EN24 steel jobbie *wink*

Mind you if the clutch goes pop, it will most likely be as spectacular as the Mazda rotaries *hehe!*

comde to think of it I've never seen evidence of a flywheel going bang yet, apart from the ultra ultra lightwight bilet ones, and they didnt go in a big way.

I remember watching Scrapheap Challenge, It was the one where they had construct a combine harvester. The flywheel exploded on one of those, went with a real bang and shook the whole machine. It was quite impressive the debris it left *hehe!*

I have heard of tappers braking and the clutch making a bid for freedom but never the whole lot going bang.

wikid so basicly adding the extra diapham puts more pressure on the clutch plate? in turn no more slipping?

is anyone running a paddle with this mod or just a normal organic centre?

Check out Matty's thread.

It is important not to overlook the drive straps. No good upgrading the clutch to take more torque, when the drive straps wont take it.

Just been chatting to Steve at MED about all things Mini.

He now has an "Ultra" Light Verto flywheel that they have developed.

I will be going to have a look before my engine goes together.

If it looks Ok, I'll get some pictures.

I'm going to build up another RTS clutch with extra drive straps as well.

that will be iteresting Paul,

Have a few miles on my rts now, seems pretty good, albeit a bit heavy on the clutch compared to the orange it replace, but thats hardly a revalation!

erm....................................

i didnt bother................

seems smooth enough....

I'm thinking that it will get swaped out at some point, either for a minispares or med lightwicht one, an alloy one, or TD's design.

Your a braver man than me! *hehe!*

I'll be swapping mine out if it all holds together for a lighter version. Just don't want to risk reving it to 8k unbalanced! *surprised*

I doubt mine is going to be seeing the rev limiter any time soon due to me keep bottling in on the throttle due to the torque steer. lol

really though, if you put a flywheel in a lathe and clock it up properly the ballance should not be a million miles out, mine certainly feels pretty smooth. an if it it is a tiny bit out is it really going to burst unless you start spining it to silly revs.

Well I took mine to get balanced and it was completely in balance already! Lol

Mines all fitted now...does yours feel like it has very limited travel compared to the Pre-verto setup?

Mine only uses half the travel? Its been a while since ive used a verto, but feel completely different to the pre-verto!

lol,

sounds like you clocked up properly then!

sounds like you mean limited travel as in the bite point is quite near the top of the pedal? in which case yes, but then the preverto setup had a bite point right near the top too...

i definatly think a bit of travel could be sacraficed for a lighter pedal with an adjustment in arm (or hydraulic) leverage

how heavy's yours? mines ok, but a bit hard going in traffic due to my dodgy knee. i wouldnt want it any harder.

Yeah its quite hard, can't remember how hard it used to be now though. lol (excuse the inuendos). It cant be far different from the grey setup, but if a stiff pedal means a working clutch then im not too fussed really. *oh well*
