Well i eventually got the time to finish nailing the car back together this afternoon. Oil pressure cold was 50-60psi droping to 35psi hot idle and 60psi under load so pretty confident that is sorted now. Just need to extract it from the workshop and test the box now

Must be a good feeling after all your trials and tribulations.

I'm at the point of building up my engine and wasn't happy to run the turbo pump like this...



...so I've made a gasket support. It's 0.9mm stainless sheet and with a gasket each side measures about 1.2mm. It's pretty rigid being stainless, and I'm not too bothered about losing a millimetre of engagement with the cam.



Gap behind this pump is now about 2-3mm



Although this pump may have worked "ok" , I'm now much happier to use it with the gasket support. It looks like Minispares have taken the turbo pump off the shelves as it appears to have been out of stock for a while now.

Does it look like the Evo pump with a different logo? If not one assumes Swiftune have either experienced the same problem or seen the likes of this post?

looks similar John but I can't find my photos of the evolution pump to compare

I'm not sure I have photos of the front of the evolution pump, but back on page 5 are photo's of the back. The ports certainly look a fair bit different to the swift tune pump.

I think you need to speak to minispares but I'd check the pump against your block to confirm with a bit of engineers blue first

I'm tempted but part of me thinks mine was spot on so don't disturb it.

I'm just going to play it safe and use the one I have from swiftune. It's not there new one but it's got more meat between the ports.

Well, to drag this back up, i was surfing ebay and came across an add for an old-stock turbo pump. Not convinced however the cast looks a little like the powerflow pump with some variations. The ports look close to our previous findings too

I just bought two cheap pumps from Minispares. Although I haven't measured them, has this been rectified? Minispares?

I believe the supplier has addressed the issue now. There was suggestion it was actually a variation in the blocks that was exaggerating the problem.

The pumps have been sorted and minispares will replace the duff ones.

Been said on here quite a few times now :).

Do we no when the pumps were sorted / swapped by minispares ??

they went out of stock around june/july 2015 so anything after that should be ok

This thread is infamous amongst the turbo mini world!

I've got low pressure at initial oil build on a new build with a KAD oil pump at the moment and begun investigation. Basically i'm getting 30psi after about half an hour (combined) cranking on an MPi engine. Next step is to remove the pump.

Seeing as i'm running oil jets and pressure fed drop gear idler thrusts, i'm tempted to go to a turbo pump, but still see the distance between the inner part of the face and block still isn't great with the new MS Turbo pumps.

Seeing Phil made a plate for his to prevent oil purging back towards the cam bearing, it got me thinking.
In the American V8 world, they use copper gaskets on oil pumps - Would getting some produced for the A series be a viable option?
