Thanks guys

I haven't got a ticket to l2b but if it's up and running and set up I might take a drive down.

Ok

Just tried to start her up.

Got spark
Got fuel (set at 4psi)
It's just flooding every time. I've left the plugs out for it all to dry out.
Tried a few times but it just floods straight away.

I did rebuild the carb a while ago and all seemed fine before I fitted it to the car. Could the float be stuck? Any way to check before I take it all to bits again?? Lol

Try disconnecting the power to the fuel pump and just start it with what's in the float bowl. If that works, keep the car running until it drains the carb. Then turn the fuel pump back on. If there's some dirt on the needle valve/seat the fresh wash of fuel often removes it.
If you still have issues, inspect the needle valve and seat and very lightly lap it in with some thinned down fine grinding paste to ensure a good seal.

Ok it starts!

The crank sensor was too far away. Set it to .88mm clearance.
Then it was popping and banging through the carb. So thought the leads where on the wrong way round! 1 to 1 2to2 3 to 3 4 to 4. Hmm strange I thought. There on there corectly.
I swoped 1 with 2 and 3 with 4. And hey presto!! The throttle is delayed and it revs up and down randomly. It's only running on the edis module at the moment so think it's set at 10 degrees across the range.
I'm sure I'll be able to sort it out over the next week. Then I'll book it in with Stuart gurr I reckon :)

Well. Just took the mini for a quick test drive.

It's quick. Much quicker than I thought it would be.
Only running 5psi at the moment. Afr gauge was reading 10 at full throttle, and about 13 part throttle.
It smokes a fair bit at idle but clears when driving. Think it could be valve stem seals? I did fit new ones. Lol

Very happy at the moment.
Just need to put the interior back. wire up the auxiliary water pump. Also need to adjust the gearlinkage as it jumped out of gear once on the test run. Then again as I was pulling it into the barn.

Apart from that very pleased with how it went.
Going to get a few miles on it then book it in with Mr Gurr.

Thinking about it a bit more could the smoke be the turbo? It didn't feel to have excessive play. A little bit up and down. Non in and out though.

Would be a right pain as I think Id have to take the engine out to get the turbo off and back on!! :(

So just a bit of an update.

Solved the irratic idle and review up on its own. Was a leaking dump valve! So new one on order.
I took a mate out in it yesterday. Went very well apart from losing some of the gears. Limped home. Think the linkage has come loose. Although it's gone all sloppy in neutral!? Need to investigate.

She also seems to be getting a bit hot as well. Oil seems fine although haven't stayed on boost for a long time. Or sat on a motoway for any length of time. But have a 10 row with a oilstat.
I'm tempted to get a spal in place of the cheap universal one I have on the rad at the moment. I've also taken the mechanical fan off as it's so cramped in that area of the engine bay.
Looking at fitting an extra rad behind front valance as well.

Am I right in thinking oil coolers are NO good for water??

Well I've fitted a extra rad from a 125 Suziki scooter...

It has 4"Spal fan mounted on it, which I've wired up to come on with the main fan, which is mounted on the 2core rad.

As I'm not running a mechanical fan, I've modded the radiator cowling to try and get more air through the rad...

I've also wired in my Bosch auxiliary water pump. I've done it via a 2 step switch I have on the dash witch turns the fans on the first step, then fans and pump on second step.

Haven't been able to see how it all works yet, as I haven't received the hoses yet! Nearly 2 weeks!! Not impressed!! Oh well next weekend hopefully!
Then if it all goes to plan I'll get booked in to the rolling road!! :)

So been driving this about and just trying to fettle all the bugs out.
I seem to be getting clutch slip at about 10psi or more. I have a KAD alloy flywheel and backplate. Along with a grey diaphragm and a minispares road/rally clutch plate. I'm sure I've adjusted the clutch correctly.
There's no oil coming out of the hole in the bottom of the flywheel housing.

Any ideas guys? Want to go to the rolling road soon but don't want to be suffering from clutch slop! :/

did you check the height of the lugs on the backplate? they usually need machining so that the diaphragm spring sits flat when bolted up to get maximum clamping.

mine are 23.5mm off the top of my head

Hmm it could be this. Is there anything else I should consider before taking the flywheel apart?
The flywheel was used previously in a 16v kad hill climb mini but with a paddle clutch. It all seemed ok before I fitted it.

Right I've recently had time to work on the mini.

Took engine out to sort out a mystery leak and clutch slip issue.
I'm gong to go for a double grey diaphragm and check the lug heights to see if it sits flat.

I also decided to re fit the exhaust valve stem seals . So off comes the head. Pull out the pushrods and....

Oops!!

It ran fine before I took it all apart. Well apart from the leak and clutch slip and smoking on idle!! Haha

Josh
