Bit of a small update after some garage time over the weekend.

I have rebuilt my turbo with a eBay kit that I had lying around as it was making a lot of noise on boost and there was also a lot of play! I swapped that shaft as it was heavily scored and the compressor housing back plate was cracked.

I have also fitted my modified waste gate with v band and started to make a new down pipe. It's very tight around the pot joint joint area.

Hoping to get it welded up tomorrow night and making a new actuator bracket.

Fair play dude, what size is that. Would like a 2.5" on mine if it'll squeeze

It should help a bit I reckon. Its taken a lot of fettling but pleased with the result!

The pipe is 2 1/4 ID mandrel bent. I picked up all the pipe work to make it for £30 which I didn't think was bad :)

I wouldn't have got anything much bigger between the pot joint and subframe as there is only about 2-3mm front and rear. I will grab a picture tomorrow.

A slight update before MITP. Car seem to be running well! Car is now making boost 500rpm earlier after the addition of the modified wastegate and downpipe :) so that seems to be doing the job!

I have a week off next week so I have some goodies to fit.

Cheers Carl for the slave 👍 I'm going to mount the hydraulic handbrake and run the pipes inside the car. Standard handbrake is tosh and want to be doing some epic burnouts :) Also need to get a mot!

Can you have a hydraulic hand brake for the MOT?

No you still need a mechanical one. This is going to be a extra. I fitted a line lock last year but it didn't work very well as there wasn't enough effort to the rear brakes.

Well progress has been slow since a uneventful MITP. First proper outing this year after some changes. The car seemed to be running lean on gear changes and then settling back down. The harder the launch or gear shift the worse it got. It would be fine with a steady pull.

I'm sure I have a fuel surge issue. I have found out since that my Ebay special fuel tank has no baffles and the outlet is towards the front of the car.

I've had sump welded into the tank which is baffled to try and cure the fault. I have have also got some AN8 fittings to feed the pump.

Just need to get it fitted and hopefully it will cure the problem.

Also fitted the hydraulic handbrake and its awesome. I can do a burnout now without the hint of movement!

Scabby looking picture of the interior before a clean *smiley*

Latest update and 2014 ramblings!

Well after spending a lot of time tuning the engine last year and a new job I didn't get as much time testing on the strip as I would have liked!

The engine is now running well and making good power. I think the turbo needs a rebuild and maybe a move to a more suitable modern unit.

The car itself is now starting to show its age. The fact that I did most of the original body around 9 years ago when I was learning. I reckon another year and it will be ready for a rebuild.

I've been tidying up some of the scabs and reprinted the rear valance and added some extra holes.

I've also done some welding to the floor and given it a lick of paint.

Aiming to use it more on the road in 2014.

Mot list includes making a suitable for road exhaust and shimming a ball joint.

Hopefully get some more drag strip action and finally run the times it's capable of!

Looking Good man,

Like the holes,

I had to do a little body repair on the bottom of the a-panel, other than that its just usual the cracks in the FG Front end.

I have also be thinking of switching to a less laggy turbo than the T3,

GT1752 ?

BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

Well I'm well on the way to getting the car ready for its MOT. I've got the floor all sorted as it had some scabby patches.

Also picked up my flat pack exhaust 😃

I decided to use what was on the car and then the extra back box to hopefully reduce the noise.

I've got it all tacked up but then I ran out of gas! The straight pipe is for when I'm on the drag strip.

How do you edit the thread name?

Can I ask how you shortened the handbrake cable? Need to move mine back I think and can't for the life of me figure out how to shorten the cable, did you get one made up?

Yeah I just shortened the original. If you cut it to length with some shap cutters on a thin cutting disk. Don't let it unravel either by holding with masking tape or being carefull. Solder the end back up. I can't remember if I drilled or punched the original cable out of the tube. Poke it through the tube and set to length. Then use a small u bolt cable clamp to hold it in position behind the original tube. Hope that makes sense. Ron

Did you use electrical solder or plumbing solder?
