Nice thought Owen, but I'm afraid I'm really interesting to see how the 296 scatter performs!

I've been running a MSPD (cunt) trackday cam for the past 4 years, and it's REALLY tame, so I'm actually looking forward to seeing how it pulls with a really lairy cam, I might as well try everything before going turbo!

Phil, you have PM my good man

Time that cam in at 104 and run a compression of no more than 11:1 with CVL octane booster or 10.5:1 on 98RON.

if the head is good you should see 120 hp and the best part of 110 Ft/lb torque

Cheers Paul, is the 104 timing figure allowing for any belt stretch taking it back to 106 at all?

If it makes any odds, It's running a minispares belt drive setup. would you still time it at 104?

I'm going to measure the deck height on saturday, and hopefully Phil will give the head a check over and measure the chamber volume when I send the head up to him for an overhaul.

I've only EVER run mini on shell V power (99RON), currently with valve master plus as the old head didn't have seat inserts

No 104 is the best for that cam after strech has accured IMO ditch that belt kit and put a chain on the belt will only end in tears. Remember you will need a valve seat opening pressure of at least 110psi that will mean well over 200psi over the nose that's asking a lot of a cam belt in IMO

Well chaps, I'm going to give this motor a shot for now, as it's basically a free engine,

I'm not passing up on going to the ring, it's a fairly cheap trip going over with TMF, and I get to have both my cars out there together (my old man drives the dailly over for me) and it's an awesome week.

I timed the engine in on Saturday at 104 degrees as per Pauls recommendation, I just need to order the required gaskets from minispares, and get Phil to take a look at my roadcomp head.

Currently waiting on some money to come through from the sale of my accralite pistons. i decided they were the most easily replacable turbo part I'd collected so far, and also they generated the most cash to get the car going again.

I'll turbo it next year, I can cope with waiting :(

Well chaps, the new motor is built!
Got the engine out last monday, and stripped it down in the week. a mate came over today to lend a hand, and a hard day was spent cleaning, degreasing, and then painting everything to go back in.

I know it's red, and red engines are gay, but my old man gave me this motor, it's only a temp thing for a year or so, and he wanted it red, so I went with it to keep him happy :)

All timmed up, ready to drop in tomorow morning, and hopefully have it running by the evening!

Are you using a cable setup for the clutch ?

Why is that ?

no cable clutch mate, that's just a standard pre verto clutch arm you see there.

Got a load more progress today

Got the lump in, which was interesting without a crane, mananged to use a trolley jack and lots of swearing.

Everything is plumbed up and ready to go just about, aside from teh Rad, and some 3/8ths UNF nuts for the manifold studs. I had to use 4 of the old ones for the engine mounts, as my new mounts didn't have captive nuts.

Once I've got some nuts tomorow, I'll drop the rad in, and we're off to go!

Initial cranking showed no oil pressure, but after back feeding it through the hole in the block it's making 50 psi off the starter.

happy days in general, should be firing up tomorow night :)

oh it's not the hardest thing in the world, I originally tried it with the servo still in place too, but that wasn't happening.

I think trying to get the pot joints in without splitting the ball joints made it a tad more fiddly....

Chaps, Help is required!!!!!

First start tonight, and after just 30 seconds, the centre branch of my LCB started glowing red!

Stupidly lean perhaps? or stupidly advanced?

I'm wondering if it's got anything to do with the scatter cam, as that changes the exhaust phasing into the centre port doesn't it?

what does it sound like Prawn does it rev out smothly, What dizzy are you using and what have you got it set at,

It would sound like it is masivly retarded on the ignition.

Is it starting easy?

take a look at the youtube vid Paul:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYLvIRMnJGk

it started INCREDIBLY easy, that vid shows the very first start up, of a fresh engine.

Dizzy is an aldon yellow, no vac advance, and I'll be 100% honest, I'm not sure what its set at. I'm going to check it tonight.

I was just so surprised it started, but a little concerned about the glowing LCB!

Also going to whip the plugs out and see what it's doing fuel wise
