so yesterday tried wiring in my rev limiter with epic failure so its back to what it was like before just with tidier wiring. was so cold working on the car, but after a few hours and losing my finger tips twisting wires its now sparking and on the soft limiter.

went for a drive and a love it......havent really driven driven it but just cruising its such a lovely engine and has bundles or torque or wants to give me it. massive smile on my face, plus so many noises :) set up is this friday so more fun to come.

only slight issue was had to adjust the engine steady of and the MJ which im picking up on this thread here.

but a piccy for you in a car park on the low sun :)

Stuart's figures will be at the fly. He takes the the wheel figures at each rpm step(500) and then corrects for air pressure and works back based on torque and transmission run down. His road is reconned to be a bit generous but as my 143 was measured on it I keep that quite.

right......

i've been driving it a bit and now comes the real project with things breaking.

first on my list was the engine rocking as it felt horrible to drive when you were felting the throttle at low revs. i couldnt move the bugger for love nor money but it moved. i was also paranoid as i had 2 steadys the divers side and none the rad side.

so last week i ordered the fancy thermostat take off steady from dsn and fitted that yesterday. really easy to fit and although i was worried i might not have the room; it fits like a glove :). got my old man to pull the engine forward, bolted it all up and glad to say doesnt move a whisker....well yet anyway.

Funny incident, well i say funny potentially dangerious i guess. went out for a drive with my friend last night quickly and was driving around some A rounds in the countryside and my brakes started to not feel right. I slowed down and obvously kept my distance from everyone! they started to need 2 pumps to get brakes, then 3, 4, 5...... by this time though we were back at her home thank god so i had a look for any leaks and couldnt see anything at all, even though all my fluid is gone. think it might be the rear cylinders maybe. i'm going back there later to check and see if i can get it home for a rundown.

i think the project has only just started haha :)

Can you get some pictures up of the steady please? I would like to see where it bolts, see if I could make it work with a bulkhead box.

course mate i will do for you later once its home. my mate lee has got a bulk head box and he just bought the thermostat top off them as his wouldnt work as your missing the 3 bolts for the pedal box and welding a bracket on the top.

I've welded a bracket to the bulkhead and got the dsn water take off with the bracket integrated into it and will knock up a steady on the lathe with LH and RH threaded rose joints, that's the plan

Could you not just weld a bracket on with captive nuts or nut and bolt and use the original steady.

right this may help.

quickly though before the pictures.

went over the brakes and i think i found what was the problem as there was a lot of fluid which was of the brake fluid texture n feel.

the hose that bolts through the subframe to the passenger front brake was a bit lose. so whats happened i think is as i've been turning the wheel left n right the pass through bolt been twisting working lose the copper line bolt thing that screws into the top on it. i feel pretty lucky really. i tightened it all up and re bleed the brakes. i may get a new brake line to go round the front of the subby though if not to expensive to fit either tomorrow night or the weekend. but for now its all tight again and brakes have been bleed.

here is a picture of the dsn water take off mount. (sorry for bad piccy but was taken with iphone)

hopefully the piccys work as i cant see them at work :p

I have a fair bit more room than that at the side of the wiper motor, If I am correct the steady mounts to the bulkhead with 3 bolts? I was planning on either drilling into the bulkhead where I have room just a couple of inch closer to the wiper motor, or making a bracket, did you notice how much side to side movement there was at the bulkhead end?

yes you are correct its the 3 on the inside so the one closest to the wiper motor you dont touch.

to be fair there wasnt much play i think as the bit on the water take off is pretty narrow so it will limit your movement left or right as to where its mounted on the bulkhead. as if you go to far it ont be flush to sit down in the grove.

like i say it fits like a glove, all very percise.

oh on a side note does anyone know what ID i need for the breather hoses?

I got you, I will have to gave a think. The breathers are about 13/14mm but don't take my word for it.

so i got stuck into doing my oil breathers this weekend so that everytime i drove the car i didnt end up smelling like i'd just come out of some industrial plant from the victorian ages.

to say its a bitch, a royal sodding f'ing bitch is a pain in the arse. two words; its tight.....

getting down the fan side with the water, filter, boost hoses and fan blade eating at my flesh i needed the hand of jeremy beadle or something because it was frustrating. couldnt even swing a borrower. However all my venting aside it was a good thing that i have normal ish hands as just as my hand brushed the furl return line it felt cold and wet. we all can guess what it was. it was by no means gushing out but a fast trickle (like a lil stream) running down the pipe under pressure. old clip off; smaller one on and fixed. Im glad i found this as although i dont think it would have be dire it will hopefully stop the car using so much dam fuel!!

back to the job in hand though:
soo my initial plan was this. i really hadnt have thought it would have looked this messy if im honest and i wasnt happy with it but it was to do for now.

breather mock up 1 by lilpinkiy, on Flickr

anyway that didnt work the bonnet was not playing ball at all and i never really thought the bost hoses sat that close; but my naivety here and thinking i knew best. still its a learning game and im just glad i bought 2 meters of the 13mm id hose :) (see i knew i'd fuck up haha)

soooo after more cursing and taking apart all i had done in frustration i came up with this. basically now runs under the boost hose (rad side) and down behind the IC to the flywheel breather and then up to my temp make shift catch tank thing lol.

oil breathers by lilpinkiy, on Flickr

when i have some money i will make a better job of it but for now it will do.

i also cut down the screamer pipe as it was sticking out of the bonnet like a hypodermic needle and thats not good for passers by.
