Another MITP2014 project build, mini looks great Rob and thanks for the advice with the intercooler.

What the mind can conceive the mini can achieve
MITP 2012 17.01 seconds 1/4 mile against "The Don"
MITP 2013 16.83 seconds 1/4 mile

cheers Lee. to be honest, I'm unlikely to bring the car to MITP; the metro is more likely to be in attendance

well a bit of (backward) progress over the weekend. managed to get a few hours on Saturday and enough enthusiasm to get up to the workshop. Didn't really have a great deal of energy to remove the engine but once I got into it, it all came apart quite quickly.

started with this around 2:30pm

ended up with this around 4:45pm

only real issue I've found is a bit of blistering to the paint at the bottom of the bulkhead box which I'll need to sort. I'm also going to consider some heat protection as I'm not sure if it is the paint or heat that is at fault.

so , the next step is to get the replacement box re-built but I'm going to have to wait a few weeks until I've got cash to get the bearings I need. Given, how long it takes me to get things done, I'd anticipate the next big step will be towards the end of Feb.....

cash flow is holding up ordering the bits to re-build the helical box so progress is a little slow.

I picked up another zetec oil jet last week; the original part has been revised by ford and the locating tab fits differently, however the particular one that is damaged doesn't need altered so it went straight in so to speak.

A little closer investigation though identified a small witness mark on the edge of the piston skirt and it became clear when I fitted the new jet that this was also coming into contact with the jet. I've now tweaked it to allow approx. 1mm of clearance which is in line with the others.

excuse the crap photo; I'm using an old phone with no lens protection; you can see the slight change to the design of the jet though.

Also picked up a standard turbo clutch plate to replace the sintered one that was fitted. Just waiting to see if I get a pay day this month that will let me order the remaining bits to get it put back together.

well a bit of an update;

the engine is now back in and running. A few minor issues such as a dead starter solenoid (it had been playing up before), a knackered battery and lack of oil pressure but all resolved now.

One thing that I never managed before now was to get the megajolt talking to the laptop but a bit of research and this was resolved last night. I therefore celebrated by re-fitting the bonnet and grille and taking it out round the farm for a test last night.

So, to add a bit of pressure, I've now booked the car in for an MOT at 8am on Monday so the list of bits remaining are (as far as I can remember);

1) fit seat belts
2) wire up and plumb washer jets
3) fit air filter
4) re-fit vinplate (almost forgot this!)
5) final nut and bolt check
6) adjust rear brakes and handbrake

On top of that, I'll probably not have the cash to insure it before MOT so going to trailer it down; the down side to that is I need to fit a set of brake shoes to the trailer and sort some lighting issues.

none of the above are great issues, however time is. I'll not get a chance over the weekend to touch it until at least Sunday night so going to have a couple of sessions through this week.

Hopefully next update will be an MOT certificate!

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Now an MOT is a good deadline. Hopefully yours survives longer then mine. I lasted a week before blowing up this year.

Well a bit of work this evening. Seat brlts are now fitted after a bit of working out.

Can't find a battery stap so will have to find one somewhere. Can't see sny real reason why it won't make the mot though.......

Well a bit of fun and games last night with the trailer breaking when i arrived at the workshop, ending up taking an hour and a bit off mini time.

Long story short, the car got to the mot station for 8am and i was in receipt of a fresh mot certificate by 9:30

Just need to sort insurance and i'll be on the road now
