well after my boost issues just before the RR day i think we've cracked it.

Refitted the std Gt20 actuator onto the comp side of the turbo which was a tight squeeze and she seems to be holding a nice 17psi from the actuator...

oil leak has also slowed to one small drip which i can live with till she comes out again.

Just got home from a test blast though and there's oil all over the place, blown out of the transfer breather. Comp test later tonight i reckon, fingers crossed the timing cover breather is blocked or something soft like that.

comp test came out at 8bar across all 4, and up to just under 9bar with oil so unless all 4 have big holes i reckon i'm ok. it was 10bar across all 4 30,000 miles ago so i'm not overly concerned.

ripped all the gauze out of the transfer breather, couldn't be arsed to take off the timing cover. and made a ghetto catch can sponsored by lenor *wink*

10 days till avon i *think* i can afford to get the mini legal again (tax & insurance) so i best pull me finger out.

it came out to try and find an oil leak and check the cam timing while i'm at it.

Had a snoop around and can't find the source of the leak at all on the block/gearbox. Last hope is the turbo oil drain. got the head and timing gear off last night and tonight i've refitted it all with fresh gaskets/sealent etc.

Tomorrow nights task will be a new rear wheel cylinder and shoes and also fitting the pick up for a cheapo bike speedo seeing as i haven't had a speedo since i first converted the car..

garage desperately needed a tidy up first though.



no signs of det, always nice to know.

bit more done now :)

engine is back in 1 piece, ready to drop in saturday.

wheel cylinder/shoes done including making a new pipe due to a rusty old one. all bled and adjusted, won't know for definate till i drive it though.

speedo pickup is mounted, araladite and cable ties came to the rescue. all temp wired in and working.

just made a new oil drain gasket for the turbo as the old one looked to be the source of my leak, used an old steel manifold gasket just hoping it does the trick.

tomorrow night i've got to tickle the manifold a bit with the die grinder as it's still totally standard in there. then saturday i can drop the engine in and make sure it runs.

got to be worth grinding these out to match the gasket seeing as the head has been opened to match the gaskets.

did u have to unbolt the turbo and swap it around 90 degrees or so?

was there any clearance issues when installing it?

and also have u still got the drawings to the exhaust flange?

im loving the car and its looks, hopefully mine will be as well performing as yours when i fit the turbo. *wink*

can't remember how much the turbo has been clocked but hot and cold sides have been rotated to get it lined up properly.

No clearence issues really, my bulkheads already modded for a std T3 setup and this is sat on a std metro manifold. only snug bit is the downpipe.

the drawings for the flange are on the garrett website as a pdf, or just email paul s who can supply them for a very good price.

Ok cheers nick. I'm guessing you had to modify/ lengthen the actuator shaft. I'll drop him a pm for the flange.

nah didn't have to touch it as the std gt20 item is adjustable. did have to remove the std actuator mount from the comp housing and make my own to gain a bit of clearence though now i think about it.
