I wouldn't go that far, a double grey and paddle most definately does the job, however the effect on the thrust washers is the problem.

Not if you try to put 238 lb ft through it. *happy*

Max torque rating, by Mini13's calculation, is 176 lb ft.

That's why I said 238 lbft :)

However, I see on EFIMinis, robert has downgraded you to 195 lbft - tut tut.

Ok dumb question,

does the diff ratio not magnify the torque?

Has anyone thought about trying to lighten the 'basket' (part that springs bolt to) on these or even the 'drive plate' (not sure on correct terms)?

Ive got a dividing head that is waiting to be used for driling some 'speed holes'...lol

Do the Verto parts for this modification need to be new, or are good second hand bits more than good enough?

Hi,
Unlikely as it's a bit risky, what with large lumps of rotating metal spinning at 6K RPM. Perfectly lined up with your danglie bits! *surprised*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hmm. Maybe they could test each one with their own danglie bits *smiley* I dont mind. I only need one. If someone loses their bits I would just have to ask someone else! He he. If you dont ask you dont get.

Well, mine has (had) been tested in ansys at 12K rpm, and I'd show a nice animation except that I lost my HD with ALL my work on it (and no backup in the past 3 months - duuur - I know). I'll know next week just waht I can get back. Either way - I need to re-do all this as I live in America and product litigation can seriolusly damage your whole life if you even temporarilly damage someone else.

I digress,,,, 8-) So, 1.5times the max rpm is what you should be aiming for as a minimum 'burst' test. This is basically simulating accelerating to red-line in 2nd (say 8000rpm) then accidentally shifting into 1st (rather than 3rd) and then dropping the clutch. With a SCCR box, in theory that could spike to 11745rpm, although would probably only get to 10K due to the vehicle deccelerating. But it gives you a saftey factor at least. As regards the duration ot the 12K test, well, that's open to interpretation on the minimum, but you need to go do it more than once to make sure you are inside of the yeild of the material. 20 times at 1 second peak hold is a safe bet, 100 times is pretty much assured reliability.

I will be doing a test - hopefully non-destructive LOL - for this before distributing my units.
As you point out, these are things that can get very nasty of they go wrong.

Yes, yes yes...

I think I first talked about this 5 years ago, so my business model was probably plagiarised by maga7ine... LOL

LOL very good Colin.

really i dont thing theres too much to be afraid of when doing an RTS, all you are doing is drilling out the soft rivets and replacing them with some high grade socket head bolts, as long as you stake them in or use some good thread locker then i'd not be that concerend, its not like you are machining a load of material of it.

comde to think of it I've never seen evidence of a flywheel going bang yet, apart from the ultra ultra lightwight bilet ones, and they didnt go in a big way.
