Reading all this is making me consider rewiring the mini. Never been 100% happy with it

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Nice how you put it all out on a table. How do you know the lenghts of each wire?
I always fancy to do a complete rewire of my racecar

This is something I have not just rushed into! I sat for a day and got all the measurements I needed so then I could work away from the car *smiley*

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

Hi sports fans!

I found out this week that I was going on a little trip away with work at the the end of the month, so I had to get started on this loom and get it put to bed. So yesterday before me and the wife had to go out for a meal, I got the board all marked out. Then I set to work when we got back well lubricated *smiley* so when I got up today I could get back at it *smiley*

I got the new Centre speedo done and I am happy with how it turned out *smiley*

Then I started on the back loom, I have heat warped the hole rear loom as this will go over the door.

I only got the front loom 90% done, before i had to come in as 9hrs stood up in there was killing me!

Let's hope tomorrow is a good day!
Thanks for looking simon.

Good skills - I'm going to be doing something similar, using a sheet of plaster board screwed to the wall :)

It's the best way really I think, as I just mark down where every thing is. As I always forget every thing!

Today was a full on head f++k but I am getting there *smiley*

I forgot to fit the doofer that makes my tank now it's in, thanks Andy B!!

Then it was time to start something so I started with the new Brain of the mk1.

I have had a look over my notes and as my water pump only takes 1.5 amps on full flow, I will not be running it thought a relay. Thanks Mr W for the info.

Next it was MJ time Lucky I had a spare plug for it.

And this is all I have to show for 9hrs worth of work *oh well*

Last thing to ask is lights, when I got my last loom from autosparks it only had one relay for HB, so I am just going to copy this,,, sound right?

I will be using this again.

Simon.

I am finding Eden that's it's taking for ever to just do the little things! I have just started breaking it in to little projects and making sh1t loads of notes as I go, as I keep forgetting stuff.

I hope to get a little done in the evenings this week as I don't have much time left before i go away.

The good news at the end of this is you'll litterally know your wiring like the back of your hand.

Yes graham it is.

The old loom was so so bodged and added to, then chopped then some more added lol. This is why I can't really follow it as it's a right cluster.

Hi Simon,

Looking good, sorry I haven't had chance to reply to your PM's yet.

I've tried a couple of times but just been too busy to construct a proper response.

You look like you are 'committed' now anyways! *wink*

Cheers

Yes I thought, I may as well grab the bull by the horns and get on with it lol.

I have tried to up size the wire where I can working off the spec sheet I have here for the wire. You was right working with the 24 gauge is fun lol.

To be honest the only thing I have used 24 gauge on in my looms is Cam position sensor, crank speed sensor, wheelspeeds and Comms such as RS232 / CAN / intercom etc... And that is only beacuse they come as a shielded / twisted lay up pre done with a durable lightweight outer - everything else like standard sensors I use 22 gauge as a minimum.

One problem is the heatshrink size for say a three wire sensor using 24 gauge, invariably even when you shrink the smallest Raychem DR25 the three 24 gauge wires are still loose inside the heatshrink so the heatshrink doesn't provide the strain relief protection.

I can't tell from the photos are you twisting the wire in each leg / branch - really helps getting the loom to bend and flow into routes that you want.

Just make sure you double check / triple check, it's soul destroying having to partially dissasemble a loom because you left 1 wire out - ask me how I know :)

Those Deutsche DTM connectors you are using have a pretty big range of wire thickness they will take - I used them for my steering column connectors and are really easy to crimp compared to the Motorsport / Autosport connectors, a lot of the FIA GT cars use them now to try and save cost over the Autosport connectors.

Good luck

Cheers

Not long left before the biggest electrical fire knowing to man happens!

I have been working on this for the last 3 days to 3/4am in the morning !

But there is not many plugs left to do *smiley*

I striped the front loom back down as I did not like the look of it, but I am happy with it now *smiley*

The rear loom is all done now and fits nice *smiley*

And the heart of the operation! I just have to work out where my new dash is going then that's it all plugged up

And my new dash *smiley* made by my bear hands *smiley*

my lighted stack gauges

That's it for now, thanks for looking.
Simon.

There is one thing to note about the clocks, if it goes wrong at least you know it will be a fault with the white wire!

Seriously though it looks really good. Like the ali panel too.

Where did you buy the fuse/reelay box?? I have the wires on my racecar on my to-do list, and have bought a range of connectors like yours :)
