Just had these 2 short clips come up on my snapchat memories from 2 years ago. Makes me a little sad. Given me some motivation though!

Fabrication Thursday.

So i had to re design the oil drain, got it all sorted now, just letting the paint harden and i'll put it on tomorrow:

Made a start on the actuator bracket, ive cut and re welded the part on the turbo, made a bracket up, welded it to the inlet manifold, water passage thing, it had some movement so i pulled it back off. Sadly it looks like im gonna have to take the inlet off to weld it properly.

I was hoping to get it in tomorrow but that's not gonna happen, i also lost the retaining clip for the actuator to turbo, it flew across the garage and i cant find it

So today i ,managed to, redo the bracket i cut off the one side, and welded in some thicker metal i also welded in some pipe with a slot cut into it so it could slide over the inlet manifolds water pipe giving more surface area to weld to etc, its not going any where now!

All on with a bit of paint, wasn't all plain sailing as when i took the cerclip thing off it flew across the garage and it took me ages to find it!

Also got all the fuel pump plumed in, exept the blooming positive wire as ive misplaced the one nut i can't find it any where so getting the brother to go to the shops in the morning yo get another one:

Also sorted out the oil return, it was a right pig to get on but now its on it looks ok:

So the weather is looking good for tomorrow so i reckon we'll give putting the engine in a go, just need to change the oil filter and sort the fuel pump out, then that's it, got to figure out a way of connecting the engine crane to it now though.

Long old day today, had to swap the speedo drive as the one on the engine was buggared.
Spent ages trying to get the engine in, ended up taking the plenum and starter motor off.
This is how it ended up:

Got one nearside bolt into the engine mount but cant get the off side and the rear nearside ones in:

I think one issue is the turbo is fowling on the bulkhead, its annoying as i originally got both nearside ones in with the the offside slightly raised but then couldnt get the offside on down further enough, its now slightly further down but so tight. Gonna have another crack in the light tomorrow.

I re drilled the subframe and moved the engine mounts forward slightly and adjusted the top engine steady to lean the engine forward a bit which gave me plenty of room for the turbo.
It's coming together nice fella.

Thank you. It’s taken ages to get to this point and I know there’s so much more to do haha.
Thanks for the tip I’ll have a look again tomorrow see if that option will work

Mine is on a turbophil adjustable steady. I bought another previously from a mini parts supplier and it didnt go any longer then standard! Phils is great and will allow me to tilt the engine as far as it can go with the mounts loose. The turbo is tight but theres space

The problem is I can’t even get the mount holes lined up, I’ve got an idea I’m gonna try in a minute. Just got to take a parcel to the post office first. I’ve got a specialist components adjustable engine steady and I’m hoping that will extend nicely

That section of the compressor housing that’s fouling looks like it could be ground off to give some clearance.

I’ve thought about that. It’s just where one of the bolts for the compressor housing screws into. I’ll have a look at that too. Thank you

So today was another ball ache, ground of a bit of the compressor with engine in situ, that gave some clearance, but i still couldn't get the mounts to drop, so i ground away some of the protruding welds on the subframe, that still didn't work so we took the engine out again, i sanded all the paint off where the mounts go and put the engine back in. still no luck. I've done some research, looks like i should get non captive engine mounts, and maybe drill out the holes for a bit of clearance. I may be able to do that tomorrow as ive not heard anything from work.
This is it, i tried hammering it down with the wheel off with no luck.

U tried taking one the bolts out rad mount/engine mount - to - engine so that the mount pivots (u'll need a jack under the engine or crane still attached) then bolt the mounts all up n then u just have the 1 long bolt to wrestle with... thats what me n a friend had to do last year on his

I've not tried that yet, sounds like a good idea thank you! i'll have a look at doing that, saves taking the engine out again

So I removed the top long bolt. Made fitting the engine mount a doddle. But now we can’t get the top bolt to thread back in. It’s so awkward it slides in but just won’t do up. I tvink it’s at a slight angle and I can’t see whether or not it’s lined up at the back

So took the engine back out, changed the mounts to non captive ones i took off my other engine, and it fitted like a glove, the hard bit was messing around trying to get the nuts and bolts on as there's no room haha.
Put the inter cooler roughly on so it would look more turbo like, took it off after the pic.
Now i've got another issue when you turn the steering wheel it looks like the drive shaft is pushing the engine as it thuds, i'm hoping its just because there's no engine stabilisers on yet.

😁 You look really comfy layed under your car between the engine hoist legs. Just life working on minis 😂.
It's good to see it coming together and nearly ready for firing up.

Oh so comfy haha. And I don’t understand how it’s my brother car yet I’m the one crawling under it. I feel like I’ve played in a really rough rugby game. My body is bruised all over from stundingvup into the crane 😂

So I’ve found what the clicking noise is. I think when the gear box shat itself it also broke the drive shaft. As if you look at the video the wheel turned but the shaft doesn’t. Guess I’m gonna have to replace the drive shaft.
