I am loosing it going to use the mini one thats still attached to the car :)

the up facing silicone tube wont be there permanetly as Iam still waiting on my MPi mini sandwich plate and the one running on the bottom thats the best place it can go :(

How do you fit an engine on your own took 3 of us to remove it :(

iv taken mine out and put it back in several times on my own just use a jack and some blocks.
jack car up high enough to slide subframe and engine under front surport car
jack engine up slowly using blocks as you under either side of subframe until you can lower the car on it
sounds a bit mad but i works well for me as im usually on my own and dont have an engine lift

Done now needs redoing lol

Okay so heres the progress from Last Friday (20th) till today :)

Engine next to the subframe:

Putting subframe in position:

Lifting the engine to fit in the subby:

Chopping down the 8mm bolts for the captive nut mounts (they use metric nuts instead of standard mini fitment?)

Finally mounted in subframe:

Unfortunatly at this point we found the downpipe didnt fit at all :( so we had to pack up and call it a day:

As we had the engien attached to the crane my dad had to move one of his motorbikes round my brother in laws house to fit the crane and engine in.

Dad went away for weekend and came back last night, got up this morning and him and my grandad cracked on making/modifying my downpipe:

Cut it up and got it to shape roughly and it fit:

I went away to help bro in law do some window cleaning came back and it was pretty much finished so we had a play with the backbox im using to see how it looked:

We decided it needed raising a bit so you couldnt see the brackets:

Much better!!

De greased the gear changer:

And the downpipe now tack welded fits lovley:

Taking pictures while im bored:

End of today engine looks like this:

Downpipe went from this:

To this:

Going to try again to fit engine in tomorrow, but have a feeling the actuator bracket will need modifying/replacing.

We will see :)

Okay so yesturdays progress:

We thought we had the engine 100% ready to go in when we packed up last night, buttt we had to re-design the water feed for the turbo because of the new downpipe we made. This took a few hours because my dad wanted to make new brackets and make sure it wasnt tounching anywhere which is fair enough :)

So heres the new water feed:

Lovley!

Getting engine ready for first attempt at fitting:

unforunatly it didnt fit in :/ the actuator bracket we made stuck out way way too much, this is as far as we got:

Turbo looked like a good fit mind *happy*

So took it back out, ripped off actuator bracket and re-built it so it sticks into the engien a bit more:

Next I had to fit it back on the engine, my dad took some piccies for me :)

****Now let me stop you right there. I am wearing an old stag party t-shirt from a friend i dont even speak to anymore and the hat is backwards because my neck got burnt rael bad and wanted to give it some shade. Im not trying to be some cool dude poser for you turbo mini people *tongue* ****

I quite like the last one because the mini me and the engine is in it :)

Next came to giving it another attempt at fitting it, my mum came out to take pictures of this glorious occasion:

Okay so we got to this point:

Lets be honest its pretty much in, however that actuator still wants to mate with the car :/

so we carry on anyway as its close enough to slid up against the cross member:

You can see the actuator hitting the cross member here, notice the line when we pulled the body back up:

Bit of Jiggling to try and clear the cross member:

So we thought well if we can bray the cross member in a bit the actuator should go into the dent and itll be good *happy*

So I painted it up and then we went to fit the engine again and it went in after a bit of jiggling to make it all fit:

As you can see we've been at it a few hours as its gotten dark.

So heres the piccies I took last night:

Empty engine crane!

Close turbo is close:

Car ready for bed:

The actuator needs to be moved to the other side as its still a bit bent, my dad wants to increase the clearence between the turbo and the cross member as its only this:

Daylight piccies:

Feels well whacky having a mini thats not jacked up anymore and has an engine in :) although it will have to come back out, but all the hard work is pretty much done now :)

Cheers for looking

Well I was going to but the engine wont push much more forward as the oil filter is almost touching hte subby :/ I think the actuator bracket is pushing the engine forward already

A common mod on the T2's is to cut the wastegate tab off and weld it on 180 round, then have the actuator on the engine steady side. *wink*

Kind of like this.

Got back form working with my uncle today to find me grandad and dad had just cracked on with the mini :)

cut the crossmember and welded it flush with the bulkhead and still not enough clearence.

So heres the piccie showing the damaged by the actuator:

Marked up where the turbo/actuator fitted:

Cut/welded/panel beaten:

could make it fit with an adjustable engine steady but then the thermostat housing wont fit?

I called enough pissing around lets just box it and then it wont feel like its been bodged. :)

Im going on holiday sat and working tomorrow so will strip it all out and get it prepped for box'ing on the 5th Aug :)

So no it wont make it to MITP Im aiming for the action day end of sept now :)

Over the past 3 days, we've managed to get the bulkhead box made and installed and get the engine in for the last time!

Heres the piccies:

Came home from Holiday on the Saturday and started stripping the mini as soon as I had fixed the girlfriends exhaust:

End of Saturday.

Start of Sunday we took the engine out again, this is becomming an all too familiar picture :/

Marked up where the box is going to be:

Cut the hole :S

Made the box:

Located the box:

End of Sunday :)

Start of Monday (Today)

Sandblasting the paint and surface rust off of the box:

Welded the box in:

Tiger sealed round the edges to be sure:

Painted the lot:

Engine ready to go back in:

Dad damaged my cowling with the handle:

Here we go for the third time:

3/4 of the way in:

Shots of how close the bulkhead box sits:

Tightening up the tower bolts:

Adjusting for the front pear drop bolts:

Engine in its resting spot:

Jacking the lot up to leave on axel stands till tomorrow:

making an old boys comment at my dad:

Here it is all ready to go on all 4 wheels by tomorrow:

Shes getting there!!!
