Yep I know. I got inspired by Nick's build. The plan was always to stick with cones. I thought it would be about a 1.5kg saving. I just need to decide what's going to handle best.

That's a bit of a bastard, I figured there'd be a weight saving there too.

Main reason I went front coilovers was because they came up cheap. I've had to make new bottom brackets and reposition the tops too.

Kinda wish I'd stuck to my original plan of staying with cones up front now.

if you use custom brackets then coilovers are lighter. just depends what you want to do.

That was with alloy top brackets. The steel bottom brackets weigh 335g each. I can't see how the cystom ones would be much lighter to be honest.

I went the same route with mine and the ride was horrible compared to cones. The handling improvement was negligible but I found them too hard for road use. It's too short and tighter spring to get any progressive bump and rebound out of. It's also the springs that make them so heavy. Shame because many see them as a move to a more modern setup. I also tried a set of fast road springs that replace the cones and hated them to. Love or hate em the cones do a really good job.

Sounds like you did the right thing sending them back Matt!

top brackets are massive and dont need to be anywhere near as big, mr W's are tiny brackets, as for lower brackets TI or part of the top arms.

alsways a solution just costs more and takes longer lol. and with coilovers you can build a tubular subframe saving loads of weight!

I'm sure a could get the coilover setup lighter, and I was planning on saving extra weight out of the subframe aswell. Thing is a don't want to compromise handling and usability for the sake off a few kgs.

I'm finding it OK to be honest, I've won slimmer of the months twice. I'm also working hard on my fitness and training to climb Snowdon and Ben Nevis early next year.

Just struggling to find enough time with 2 kids, work, mini and gym.

Quality is top notch, however I opted for 4 layers of Carbon, so weighs more than advertised. I did so as I plan on fitting a bigger/heavier fuel tank and for overall strength really.
