But don't you want an intercooler to reflect heat? i.e. not get hot?

You need heat transfer to cool the air.

It impedes heat transfer if it is shiny, if you want it to cool well, then unfortunately you will have to put up with it heating the air in the unlikely event that the outside air is hotter.

I still don't get it. You want the inside to absork heat and the ouside to reject it?

I'm not trying to be an arse, just trying to understand, and right now it's not sinking in.

Either way my IC is staying as it is as I'm a tart!

No, heat will only travel from the hot side to the cold side.

Think of it as volts, current and a resistor. Volts is the temperature difference, resistance is the inverse of thermal conductivity and the current is the heat transfer. To increase the current (heat transfer) you need either higher voltage differencial (temperature difference) or higher thermal conductivity.

Shiny surfaces restrict heat transfer either from the metal side to the air or vice versa.

thing is the aluminium is still there under the paint that reflects the heat back out.

I think the bond of the paint to the aluminium is the important bit, since it will be the paint that will absorb more energy and conduct it to the aluminium, or visa versa, while the aluminium will still reflect any radient heat that id did anyway. Bit like Pilkingtons K glass

I might just take the shine off the pipe between the compressor and the intercooler, if I get the time.

Ummm... haven't decided yet. It certainly will not be pleasant to drive, particularly for the passenger as there is no seat!

The wiring is in for all the lights etc. Need to add wipers and change the screen for a glass one, plus lots of little jobs. In the end, it not that much different from a lot of the more radical road legal machines on here.

Maybe next year.

Yes, but size is not everything.

It's a cheap chinese jobbie that will have to do for now. This afternoons job is to weld sensor bosses to the pipes so that I can log pressures and temperatures in and out.

I would have preferred to mount the intercooler to the drivers side but could not find anything off the shelf that would be suitable.

Stunning, very neat.

Probably no need for an IC with all that piping, haha.

I'm interested to know what pressure drop you get across the IC.

What's the list of jobs then?

Main jobs to do are:

Downpipe - make
Exhaust - fit
Gear lever - connect and check works - make reverse detent
Sample chamber pipes - make
Battery/Alternator wiring - fit
Handbrake - No idea yet
Harness fixings
Throttle cable - make
Breathers - make
Tank - fix
Fan - fit
Front end - cut to fit.

Then take it all apart and fit it all together properly as it's all temporary at the moment.

Not a lot :(

Well spotted.

I've got a turbo blanket and some heat reflective tape on order.

I assume you only need to cut the front end around where the intercooler is, or have you replaced the front end?
Thats a days work, come on man, pull your finger out.

It's just around the intercooler that it needs cutting, not a lot.

We are getting there, although it took most of Sunday to make the downpipe :(

Hope to have it on the NMS rollers this month.
