Am I right in saying this is an oil fed bearing with a small hole in the idler to feed the transfer housing side? If so this looks very good. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

If it is a hole through the thrust face(s) of the gear, so only one side needs pressure feeding...... very clever !!!

Yes, only one side is pressure fed - oil comes through the idler to the other side where the another bronze washer is screwed to the transfer housing....

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Hi Sprocket, never heard about the "sliding" thing- I am using this mod already for 3 years @ 200hp+ now with no problems. Cool :) that is the final piece that has made the decision On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

Hello Guys, Impressive stuff this is, But... regarding Paul's original question. Here is my opinion why it failed. "machining tolerances" if you carefully measure a trans case and or flywheel housing you will see that the centerlines and concentric bushings vary wildly from case to case. causing a misalignment. One measurement i do is to remove the idler bearings and bolt the flywheel housing and trans together turn a shaft down to get a slide fit in the trans bore within .001 then slide it over to the flywheel housing bore you will see some will fit and others won't. one i had was over .015 out. not surprisingly the first motion gear had cracked teeth but had not broken off yet. and this was an 1100 three syncro combo someone had fitted a later vented housing to it. To test this take a diff side cover and chuck it into the lathe like you are fitting a cooper s bushing. you will see they all are at least .005 out and if you check other bores and clearances you will see the whole case is like this. so if you are running serious Hp and want it to last check your centerlines. Aaron Racecar spelled backwards is Racecar |
