I've had pretty bad luck yes., but a lot of it was down to me not having the confidence to build myself an engine in the first place.

This is all new to me. If you look back at my previous posts, it wasn't long ago that was considering getting a garage to do a head gasket for me because I wasn't up to it.

How things have changed eh! You've got to learn somehow I suppose.

I certainly wouldn't have the confidence to do it without the help from this forum and namely Joe. Top man!

Quick update, as it's been a while. I'll let the pics do most of the talking for once.

Finished building the lump up.


Fitted the GT17


Made a downpipe for it.


Joe sorted me out with a clutch! Cheers!

The plte is a buffer lol. The intercooler only has a couple of mm clearance and I'd rather have that plate make contact than the pointed edge of the bottom mount.

Black engines rule and that is the end of it. You only paint your engine red if you are going to put it on egay and want top money for it.

I've said it before, red under your top coat. All the power of red with any colour of your choice!

Haven't updated this for ages. Here's a quick summary..

I've still not got the engine in the car because of an issue with the clutch/flywheel. So in the meantime I've given the fuel system a general tidy up. Started by pulling out the crappy 6mm pre pump filter. Not a moment too soon by the look of it. Perhaps this is why the pump was sounding rough.




I've since cleaned the tank out and replaced the filter with a much more butch version. I'm also replacing all of the fuel hose as it's starting to go brittle in places.



I made a -8 to 11/16 union. Aparrently they don't exist! (I'm sure that as Someone will Immediately prove me wrong). So I chopped a couple about and soldered them together with silver solder.

Here's the oil drain and actuator bracket. Neither are pretty, but are functional and strong.

few questions though,
are you planning on running the water cooling on the gt17?

where did you get the 3 bolt flange for the exhaust ?

No water cooling for me. Can't be arsed.

I was lucky, the 3 bolt downpipe clap came with the turbo. Although I had to chomp a bit out of it to get the 2 1/2" pipe to fit.

Yep, I noticed the tax disc hasn't been valid for over a year. I'm sure it had 4 months left when I took it off the road too!

Quick update. Been dicking around with the downpipe (mk2), trying to get it to fit.

It was a struggle, but it's all in. Few more jobs still left to do.

The black on black look is perfect. Is it getting a grill or are you letting the 'cooler hang out for all to see ?
