not on a injection rob ,just depends on what value is in the mapping box .

going from 8 degrees to normal timing will make it leaner for the same fuel setting .

its much leaner than it used to be because the single turbo has much less back pressure so the amount of air going through the engine is higher ,but the fuelling stayed the same .

yes rob ,ish lo. brett , ichallenge you to spool up the one i just took off , it would only spool with a 3.5 litre engine on 9 psi1st stage at 3k rpm lol

Really interesting Robert (well the results, not the video!!!)

You ever put the GT17 on your contraption?

Very interesting stuff Robert. It would be interesting if poss to do a similar comparison with some of the popular turbid for Minis over the years. T3 in metro or escort flavour, T2 Renault 5, gt17, and the gt20 as well.

very true tom , its a fascinating analytical tool.

i am not sure if anyone has used one for this purpose , but the chance to find out how a turbo will spool,, without having to put it on the engine ,is a hell of a time saver .

Interesting,

what sort or pressures are you seeing?

is it possible to measure copressore outlet temps?

8 inches on the big slow one and about 25 inches ,so just under 1 psi on the best one.

Thanks for that Robert.

Upon a bit of research the IHI turbo robert was using is similar in characteristic to the t25 used on the CA18DET engines.

oh sam , its way bigger than that. the turbo you refer to is a 39.75 mm inducer on the compressor, this one is a 49mm inducer .

to compaRE TO GARRRET sized wheels its more around the size of a gt2860 , but with a lower max pressure and about 500 cfm of flow , so a reasonably fast responding wide map 300 bhp turbo .

trouble was the engine on 9 psi was already making 250bhp 300 lbs/ft at only 4500 rpm ,so on 12 to 15 psi it was already at that turbo's max capacity at low rpm ,and ,even with a couple of wastegates , could not flow enough through the turbine anyway....it HAD to go !

Thats interesting. With your results it seems to suggest that its possible to get a hx40 super to spool as quickly if not slightly faster than what im running now.

Currently im making just short of 400hp with a custom k04 Based hybrid and an external wastegate on a VW group 1.8 20v.

It does involve a lot of methanol though. Post intercooler pre throttle. A nozzle into each injector and a high pressure nozzle pre turbo to widen the compressor map a little.

mine is the 6 blade 60mm hx40 pro wheel sam , the 56mm smaller hx40 test was the 8 blade with the 16cm a/r turbine .

i am going to end up with the 60mm 6 blade pro wheel , the housing to go with it but with the map width slot machined into it (cos it was not there as stock)

then fitted with the 16cm turbine housing ,and also using the spool valve .

veronica just posted the new pro wheel to me, i found it in america for 41 dollars.

yeah 2.5l, Hx35w, 7 blade, 12cm twin scroll, but on a non twin scroll manifold, as i was going to buy / make a valve similar to what your doing
but the turbo was a hell of a lot more responsive than i predicted
the recent acquirement was listed as a hx40 'super 40' 16cm turbine, not took it to bits yet may end up on the 1.8 vtec

( ohh and the sound they make <3 <3 )

have you wheel sizes and spool log on hx35 brett?

be interesting to see how the 40 works and what's inside it .

what boost and bhp are you at ?

turbo wheel sizes
Compressor: Exd:78.0mm Ind:54.0mm
Ex Turbine : Ind:70.00mm Exd 60.00mm
boost low 0.5 bar, high 1.1-1.2bar ish
power ??? road mapped and not been on a dyno yet (peaks around 85% duty on 555cc injectors @ 11.1 afr )
needs a forged rebuild before getting frisky lol

both pics show the same few seconds of log, couldnt find any decent pulls from off boost when running high boost
although it is something i keep meaning to do
