Today started with so much hope after I nice chat with john last night on FB about the eng, so off I went and swapped the rockers with no joy then I swaped the push rods still on joy.

So I got my long srewdriver and stuck it to bits of the eng and with my ear to the handle I worked out the tapping was coming from no1 now this is the new one!!

O not to risk it and to quote john a dead line takes all fun out of it. I made the call to say I was not coming to the RR.

Now as the wife was in London with work what a better way to spend the day on the piss up town. So before I left I was think that I took it as red the the new piston was the same as the old ones, but guess what the new ones are not!! The pin hole is lower by 4mm so this now makes it come up more, and by the sound of it hit the valves *frown*

On the train I called minispeed to see what the crack was and they was fine about it so the plan is I am going to pull the eng, strip it, drop it off the eng builder there is going to check everything over, work out the CR blaince everything up, and make sure the block and head is flat.

So then it should be singing right when it's all built up, as I think it's the best thing to do as to much has gone wrong with it over the last weeks, and rushing it is not helping.

Sorry if I have gone on a bit but ever one likes a drink, no likes a drunk.

But I have worked out what it is! So I am going to pull itall back out tomorrow. The wife what's me to get minispeed to build it, so I can spend time with her lol.

Real pisser mate. Get mini speed to check that the windage tray doesn't catch the new rods too. See you tomorrow for a deserved beer.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

yup .as expected...new pistons again with the right gudgeon pin height needed?

just realised , that must have been just about sticking out of the block , I wonder what they are used for with 4mm extra height? a shorter rod I suppose.

Your luck is right out at the moment Simon.

Maybe take a breather and plan to re-assemble over a longer period, taking your time and not chasing a deadline.

I have been there too, if you read my threads I had a cam chain snap, had the car on fire, broke two gearboxes and am now on my third diff.

We must all be crackers !!

Shame you wont get to RR, after all.

After MITP has made me want to get back at the car! so I have been working hard in the man cave on parts off the Mk1, I have saved 16.25kg in 2 days so that's it down to 619.75kg.

I hope to get it to 599.00 by Xmas.

Are you weighing stuff as you take it off? I've always been sceptical about whether taking of 3 5kg items actually adds up to 15kg off the car or not. Be interesting to get the car on the scales and see what it weighs when you have done.

Yes mate, when it was last at slarks it was on the scales. This has give me a mark to work off. Now as I go I weigh any part I work on / take off before and then after. Then I just sit and add up my little book at the end of the day.
