Thanks Rob, Yes I hope to be there *happy*

Right a bit of a better update.

Last week I went and seen my mate at Minispeed about getting a new piston, so 4 days later I had 2 new dished out pistons, I had to order 2 with rings so I have a spare lol.

Today I could only trust my self to clean the old pistons as I had far to many Jaeger Bombs last night to do any thing important.

So this is the plan-

.Mon, clean every thing and make sure I have all the bits to rebuild the Eng.
.Tue, Wait for a small box from Doncaster to come, rebuild the Eng and get it back in..
.Wen, last bits and bobs test drive it.
.Thu, get some RR time.

Simon.

nothing like having a plan...

I would guess the box will have some fancy rods in it?

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Not trying to be a smart arse here, as I'm sure you're more than aware that replacing pistons is simply a (necessary) fix of the symptons....not a cure for the cause.

Your engine gas been detonating, the only question is where and when....this question needs being resolved asap before going on a weekly piston diet:(

Although your problem might be as 'simple' as a mixture that's too lean, it might very well lie in your ignition map and/or inlet air temperature or a combination. Intercoolers act as a heatsink primarily, being cooled back to normal during off boost conditions.

The first thing I'd therefore do is fit a post intercooler inlet air temperature probe to monitor IAT's. To give you an idea, a Porsche 993TT already starts pulling ignition advance at IAT's over 37C (1.5deg) op to 6degrees at 70C.

Next to a wide band lambda sensor, I would quite simply demand the use of det cans during dyno set up. It would be interesting to see whether the dyno operator can already hear traces of knock during low IAT runs, meaning that as long AFR's are ok the base map is too advanced in places. Or that knock rears it's ugly head during high(er) IAT runs only.

I don't know if your ECU is able to run temp sensitive mapping, if so I'd have it programmed to do so. One more thing, coolant temp. The difference between 85C and 105C is somewhat in the order of needing 2-3 extra points of octane to combat knock, given the fact you run a front mounted radiator I don't think this is an issue but thought I'd mention it anyway.

Good luck!

Evoderby, I know what your saying, I have been thinking hard about what it could be, and I will be getting to the bottom of it!

Well today has just been the norm for me. As the little box from Brett was sent next day delivery before 12.00 I got up at early o'clock and drove down to MiniSpeed to get a new speedo cable, and have a chat about my next RR check up. I also made sure I could book in with the bloke that did the tune before I went to the Ring. so I got chatting with him and he is happy with what I am looking for when I go down.

So I get home and wait like a kid for the postman and guess what he came at 11.53 WTF!

Then I get on with it, only to find out that I needed a bush for the rods, so I call Minispeed and they had some there, so off I trot back down there! When I was there I found out that the rods needed machining for the end float. So the 10min job now became a 3hr job.

Anyway I got home and got back to work and don't they look sexy!!

Then 3hrs later with the help from Mrs Madmk1 and we made this! just need to drop it in tomorrow.

Ah I see, I guess they shorten the pin and squeeze the side walls in.
