I thought I'd go for something a little different. I did completely polish the cam cover, so if I decide I don't like it when it's in the car I've got a plan B. *smiley*

I'm hoping to get it built up and in the car in the next month or so. I've done most of the fitting work already, so it's pretty much an assembly job now.

As soon as my downpipes are done, I can crack on with it.

that's the plan Jim. the black paint is all ready for the plenum. *wink* i thought if we're running the same head and both have 6 speed box's then they may aswell look the same.

what have you torqued your head gasket too? i can't remember for the life of me what i had mine torqued at.

Well 1 step forward 2 steps back... I set up my box last night to run it up for a few hours, to check running clearance at different temps etc and I noticed that the 1st motion shaft was oscillating. My first thought was that it might be because the support bearing wasn't in place, so bolted on the transfer housing and everything went tight! So I loosened the transfer housing off and rotated the box and the I could see the housing moving.

After putting a DTI on the 1st motion shaft there was a few thou of run out. I clocked the 1st motion shaft between centres and there was a few thou runout, which was a relief as I thought that was the problem...well so I thought!

I managed to modify a second 1st motion shaft during my lunch, clocked that between centres, and same amount of runout, so I assumed they were within tolerance, so turned my attention to the main shaft...looks like its not running true!

So it looks like the box is coming completely apart again tomorrow, to do some investigation. I've got a feeling I'm going to need to get another shaft made up now, and knowing how long I've waited in the past that's a complete shitter!

Either the shaft has bent when I had it hard chromed a few months back, or it was reground wrong. I was unhappy with the spline at the pinion end, and I didn't want to wait 6 months for another shaft, so I decided hard chroming would be best.

Either way, im slightly pissed off to say the least! I was planning on bolting it to my engine next week. looks like I'll be making a call to see how quickly I can have a new shaft made.

Pisser, but it's better you find it now then when you pull off for the first time...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I'm not sure yet, I forgot to bring my pinion socket to work today. Lol

If its bent, I may be able to straighten it. But if they've ground the pinion splines and bearing diameter off centre then it's probably quicker for me to machine a shaft blank and send it to have the splines machined.

I'll find out tomorrow. *oh well*

It's a pisser to find, but at least it can be sorted relatively easy. I'm cracking on with rebuilding the top end for now and putting the car back together.

A bit more progress, while im waiting for the new gearbox shaft. I've modified the fuel rail to run aeroquip fittings, much safer and tidier than rubber hose and jubilee clips.

I've also nearly finished my new shifter and base...but I'll wait until that's completely done, as its been a mammoth machining job.

silver soldered them on. i was going to weld them on, but when i blasted the paint off i realised everything was soldered and thought welding would put too much heat in.

A bit more progress. Fuel rail finished, plenum cleaned up. I've made some new bronze bushes for my throttle body, cleaned it all up and machined a lip onto the edge to hopefully stop the boost hose blowing off again! *happy*

I've also made a new, water pump blanking plate/alternator bracket/trigger sensor bracket/gear shifter bracket. I just need to work out where everything is going to go on the lower section when the engine is mounted to the box, and finish tidying it up.
