I was discussing this box with somone today, we came to the conclusion that it'll either shit itself within 5 mins... or be indistuctable....

I really hope its the latter!!

Haha that's kind of the same conclusion I've come to!

I keep going through everything in my head of what could let go. My main concern was that the needle rollers may not be up to the job, but I've been quite reassured of that since seeing the Ginetta box.

I can't see the casing being an issue as the the webs are now 25mm thick instead of thin ribbed plates. I've been trying to think of a way to put some serious load through it,but haven't thought of a way yet apart from road testing it. *oh well*

Jim - unfortunately this isn't your one, but its in progress, im still waiting for the £200 for your one. *wink*

Originally I thought the case might be the weak point, as all the ally welding I've done has been "soft"

but as you say its well thick and I assume its been done by a proper welder using the appropriate grade rods.

The welding was done buy a guy that does aerospace and welds missile casings, so I can trust him. Lol

Another concern was the dogs not liking the extra rotating weight of the mini crank and flywheel, but I've knocked 3.5kgs off my rotating assembly so that's about all I can do to help that. I Just need to get it balanced now, and the short motor can be built and everything chucked together and put in the car.

A road test is the only way. unfortunately, I'll also be testing my new brake setup, with new suspension geometry (read as not setup) fresh engine rebuild, fresh rewire and obviously the gearbox....not much to go wrong then! Lol

Ive managed to get last of the machining and pipe work made up during my lunch breaks. There was a lot more thinking involved to work this lot out, than actual machining. lol But the reverse selector is now all finished.

Haha, it doesn't look like something that should be in a mini gearbox.

I can't remember what torque to do the head bolt to? SC guides says 36f/lb but I seem to recall standard mini head bolt torque being used?

My engine build is coming along nicely. I was a bit bored with BMC green, and thought it was best to have something that can be seen by the side of the road, whist im picking my gears up from off the floor. lol

I got a bit carried away cleaning up the casting an ended up with this. *happy*

Wonderfull progress again Matt, but please keep the BMC green! Such a good link! It might be a dull color at its own but it is the right f*ck you statement to all VTECs etc...
