Just ordered a polycarb window kit. :)

Need to find a drivers door, and then work out what we're doing with the paint.

That's going to happen after the engine is in place though.

Polycarb windows. What's the plan for the car Alex?

Just playing with it really. No real plan. All my windows are scratched and manky so they're coming out, and nobody seems to be happy to post glass. I liked the polycarb windows on my last car, so going for it again.

Thanks mate, didn't even know they existed. Bookmarked, and will use them if I don't like the polycarb ones when they arrive :)

I've used bullmotif a couple of time recently and had good service

I have however found the local independent glass places are good for getting glass funnily enough. It worked out very reasonable given the price of SH stuff

So; today I had a plan. I was going to get the engine out of its crate, clean it, split it, check it, then lay out all the bits and bobs I've got on the floor and work out what I still neeed to buy.

I started off getting everything off the shelves, and the engine out of it's box.

Then, removed some junk from the engine - alternator, starter etc.

Then gave the engine a clean (a bit half-arsed tbh).

Then I started taking the engine apart, I was only going to whip the head off to check everything was tickety-boo, but I was pretty confident that it was as it turned over pretty freely from the crank.

Whipped the head off, and found...

And the head looks manky too..

So, what, if anything should I keep? The block is scrap I guess - it's already a 1330, and the bores look pretty crap.

Anyone got any idea about the head? Is that something that I can save?

A bit of a set back!

The block wont be scrap, someone can bore it to 1380 so its sellable. Keep everything else, the head will clean up Im sure

I seriously doubt it!

that sucks!
but should bore out
worth dropping it by a machine shop to see what they can do

better off building your own then trusting an unknown engine or block as you probably now know

alex ,
it may be worth getting the pistons out of the block ,and using a razor blade or something to scrape away the ally sticking to the walls ,then measure it and have a god inspection to se if its really dead .

maybe a new piston and a hone and off you go ?

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

looks like it says -40 9.38cc on the crown of that piston.

If the -40 is the piston size then it's only 1312 so has another bore in it!

If the pistons are flush or even 10 thou down the bore (ala metro turbo) then with a standard head it would mean the static compression would be up around 10:1! No wonder it melted down.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Odd isn't it? I have a receipt for the engine (apparently) which states AE pistons, 1330 bore, etc.. doesn't match up.

Even if it is 1330, it still has a couple of bores in it yet. I would get it checked and measured at a reputable machine shop and then get new pistons to suit.

Good work Brett!

Looks very much like this piston!

So it looks like if that bore is salvageable you can buy a single pistons from minispares and get the chambers in your head opened up!

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

You are under no obligation to help me with it mate, but you are more than welcome to have a tinker if you feel the need.

Perhaps we can just whip the engine open again and you can tell me how bad it is, ha.
