Yep that's the one.

Had the engine out last weekend, took the box off and inspected the clutch etc, found a big nick out of it.. So it was really unbalanced, replaced that and the noise has stopped. Need to align the gear shifter with the box then see if I can get all the gears. Fingers crossed for better luck this weekend!

i have replaced these release bearings where sometimes the little o ring rubber seal from the old unit, stays in the slave unit and can cause it not to engage, by blocking the flow of fluid! this could be something for you to check!?

Been a few weeks since my last update, got a fair bit done too.

Clutch and brakes have been bleed and seem good, clutch is a bit harsh and will take a bit of getting used to but seems to work ok with the little testing i have done.. fingers crossed.

After pulling the car in and out the garage for a good over due wash the gear box rattle went.. moral of the story is to fully test things before jumping to conclusions!

Dash is now in and so is all the interior, i would like a new steering wheel when funds allow, think it could do with being a bit bigger, will make the torque a bit more bearable.

Front end was fitted today, and managed to finally locate the radiator - more than happy with the final fit!

Also pleased with how the bay looks now its basically finished. :)

Just a few small jobs to complete for the MOT (due next month), and to get it running right, wheel alignment etc.

Only thing holing me up now is cash.. needs tax and insurance, if i can sort that then Avon here i come. :)

Have a go at making it your self mate, Then get someone to weld it up for you, then it will be exactly what you need/ looking for.

and it should be cheap.

Yeah could do Simon - would save some cash!

Thats also been a problem getting something exactly how i wanted it - the vaux unit in there at the moment does the job but not really the best looking part in the bay.

Fab job mate. Have just read the last 4 pages of your post ! Firkin hell you had some bloody things to sort out mate.

All credit though. Looks a real tidy job and without the hassle from the extra heat and a poxy SU it'll be a beauty to drive.

I really hope you get it up to Avon. Am gonna be there on the Sunday with the van so hope to catch up with you pal. Been ages.

And I agree, that expansion tank is just right for a stainless or Ali make-over. But fir the time being why not just rub it down a bit, prime with plastic primer and spray it matt black or wrinkle finish.

Good job bud.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

Thanks Richard, i will be at avon one way or another - so will have to catch up, hope to be in the mini :)

been looking into a paint finish on the tank, looks like a good temporary solution.

Have a small issue with a live feed draining the battery.. that should be sorted in the next few days though.

Just trying to iron out all the little issues.

Could you not just give it a lick of paint? Maybe in the same black as the bulkhead

It was very high maintenance and had dubious reliability.. but when it was on song it was great!

I hope that the Vauxhall build will enable me to use the car a bit more and renew my faith in it that it will get me where i intended.

sorted the wiring / battery drain issue :)

I wired a 'switched live' and 'live' into a fuse block the wrong way round.. plank.

Phoned HIC / Adrian Flux for an insurance quote, much to my surprise i came away with excellent cover for £145!

Better than the renewal quote from Performance Direct i got of £390.

So tax tomorrow and MOT is due the week after. Should get some miles on it over the weekend, will let you know how it goes.

Christ mate, apart from the cut away wings, that looks as if it grew in there. Another nice job mate, looking forward to seeing it at avon if you get there :)
