I could check the gears over for cracks, but I suppose this would not get us any closer to the cause as They could be fatigue cracks caused during use?

I wonder whether the case failed causing the gears to push apart then cause the following carnage, or perhaps the gears failed and the case damage is a result of the forces from the faliure.

I bet that made a bit of a noise when it let go!

New casing sorted today and most of the parts are back together. Just need to drop the diff in tomo!

Then going to strip the engine to clean it out of any possible swarf.

another thought on the gear breakage front...

what gears did you lock together to tighten the pinion and 1st motion nuts?

I lock 1st and 4th. The gearbox is fully built ready to go back together. Engine is part stripped ready to be cleaned. Hopefully have the engine sitting back in the car tomorrow evening.

If anybody had any spare gearbox casings they could bring to Avon that would be champion! Cash waiting!

I asked as I have heard of teeth breaking when locking box's in 3rd & 4th.

I think it will be a case of the chicken or the egg as to what broke first!

I've built the box the same so will see how it goes Saturday!

Bit worrying really! This was on road tyres on moderate boost. Not sure if the gear broke and cracked the casing or if the casing cracked first.

The box managed about two miles and 13 runs on the strip. Looks like I have a busy week ahead of me :(

Matt this was on road tyres I don't dare use the slicks anymore they grip too well! Last time I used them it killed a clutch flywheel and backplate.

I have have fitted the same gearset but from MED as they are down the road. I'm pretty sure it's the Minispares set but marked as there own.

what side plate have you been using the std one or the turbo one with the bigger bearing in it

Well after the gearbox broke at Avon and then crashing my daily driver not much has happened on the Mini.

Engine box is coming out next week to check the damage. Engine and box will be getting a full build. Possibly a four bolt main if funds allow.

Well the Mini turned a wheel for the first time today under its own steam! To say I'm chuffed is a under statement, I was total fed up of working on it!

Got a few problems to sort mainly a oil leak from the filter housing and then the engine can be bedded in.

Not much had changed just a few weight saving parts and hopefully some adjustments to make it drive easier!

Clutch pedal is pants though! Anybody had any joy revealing master and slave cylinders?
