yea at least it died properly i guess!

Paul: I think you might be right, it's either dropped a valve or it's stuck in the guide and been smashed off. I'll pull the head tonight and see what's happened.

What are the chances that the head will be scrap if it's dropped a valve?

chap at work had an interesting idea,

would it be possible that the cause of it seizing is a snapped off valve head sat on top of a piston stopping it from rising fully?

I'd be incredibly happy if it hasnt holed the piston, as my main worry at the moment is for the gearbox!

Will be off within 20 minutes of me getting home tonight!

I didn't fancy attacking it yesterday, it was still hot when I got it home, so I jumped in the audi and headed down to the show anyway.

It's now driving me mad sitting at work speculating.....

I jsut want to know what it's eaten and what it's going to cost!

MOT's old engine dropped a valve. The only broken things were the exhaust valve and piston. However, I consider this extremely lucky.

What a shame about the engine, i really like the look and style of this, good luck getting it back on the road. :)

ouch but the piston has not holed, so your theory about the gearbox could beeing ok could be ok,
made a good job though, interestingly its the exhaust valve and possibly tight guides the cause?

yea it's holed alright, only a tiny one, I'm not sure if anything could ahve got down there to do any damange.

More interestingly, it was that same exhaust valve that picked up in it's guide and hit the piston last year and bent whilst on the rollers. The valve was replaced with a brand new valve from MED, although after overheating on a trip to the Ring the seats needed re grinding to bring compression back up. I had new guides fitted and reamed at the time as the guides in 2 and 3 exhaust valves were cracked.

Seems odd that it's this position that's caused the issue again....

Bit of a shame as the head was £995 from MED back in the day and now it's scrap :(
