As perusual ive been thinking more then ive been doing. Ive been cutting rust out for ages so i thought id crack on with the front subframe.

Originally i was going to use U brackets to mount the brace bars to the subframe, but saw the idea of using a bolt welded and thought it would clear the front end better. Ive already attacked the frame with the hole saw, but ive only touch the tip of the iceberg there is still loads to come out of it, hopefully get it done at the weekend.

The rot in the boot floor has all been remove just waiting on panels now.

Im still in two minds about the front end, ive got a 2 piece round nose, but really considering swapping it for a clubman.

Evening all, thought id post a brief update, as per usual progress is slow and budget has been wiped due to wedding, but ive been cracking on with the boot nicely.

Ive replaced both boot corners and floor section. decided to go with a fibreglass floor, picked one up from Arc Angel at Bingley, but im in two minds about using it. The plonker i am i removed the boot floor right back to the bulkhead originally planned to get the Curley one which bolts to the underside of the bench, but the this one has features at the back to mount the floor. not sure whether to make up some brackets, get the curley one or go down the PaulH route and make an ally skin.

The boot just needs a little finishing off and then i can roll it, clean up the underside and will be a lot closer to paint. Hope have it rolls ASAP as my garage really needs a god clean out, dust and grinding crap all over the place. Im going to plod on slow consentrating on gettting the body solid.

TBH Man id go with what you have and make some brackets like you said,

The only reason I went with the ally skin was beacuse I want to mounth my super heavy Exhaust box up in the middle of the subframe, which I would no be able to do with a FG boot floor as they would be two close together.

Build looks good man Makes my machine look HEAVY :)

I find the easiest way is to super glue the bolt to the end of one of my fingers.

Cheers Paul, i plan to put a cage in it once its done. makes all the hard work trying to save weight pointless, but i guess every little helps. love your build by the way.

Thanks Simon, loads still to do, but i can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

looking good mate.

i have a arc-angel boot floor as well.
not fitted yet though.

just had a thought, would the bottom of the floor have to be covered with some sort of heat proof stuff, as the exhaust sits below it?

also have you thought about how to mount the fuel tank?

thanks
josh
