Does the grill fit? or will you be running without one? Isambard Kingdom Brunel said:

I don't think we are planning on running a grill. Depends where the intercooler finally ends up. Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."

Still quite a bit to do mechanically. Electrically, well we have three looms for the ECU and data logger to do. About a mile of cable and 1000 connectors.

Why you gotta paint it all? If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

Just the intercooler and feed to it. Best for heat transfer. I like it shiny though :) Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."

I'm not convinced about the whole black theory. Yes I know the wavelength of black light transfers more energy or whatever the science is, but surely a bare alloy surface has some advantage over a layer of etch primer and a layer of black paint on top of it?

Taken from Garrett's website:-
I want my car to remain a sleeper/stealth. Can I paint or anodize my intercooler so it is not easily visible?
Yes! It is not uncommon at all for an intercooler and endtanks to be anodized black to keep attention away from the car and help it maintain a sleeper appearance. A very light coat of paint on the core and endtanks is also another option, usually much cheaper and easier than anodizing, with a negligible performance loss. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

Anodised black is a good call. Or anodised red if you want to be posh and match the colour of the car!

It is an interesting theory about painting stuff black. Radiators in your house would in theory be more efficient painted black (but would look shit unless you were a Goth).

My Classic impreza TMIC is black too - although having said that it's an early model - so not the most efficient that Subaru or Prodrive designed.

I have often questioned this too. Remember the sicense experiment in school with 2 pieces of aluminium, one of which was painted mat black on one side. The results were that the one painted black transfered more heat, basically as it didn't reflect so much.

Black is a perfect interheater then if painted black then?

So I suppose if you could paint the inside of the intercooler then that would help, but the outside makes little sence to me. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

I think that it is more to do with the fact that reflective surfaces actually reflect heat as well as light.
